Can we Please have more faith in Doom

Okay I'm not even a really devoted fan or even liked the original Doom games but come on this is ID we are talking about. I'm sure they will be able to make the next game they make better from the lessons they learned on Rage.

Doom 3 was pretty good.
Rage minus the need for more content and the ending was good
so why wouldn't Doom 4 be good?

They always make improvements from previous games. I'm anticipating Doom4 to be mind blowing.

The problems with Rage aren't just lack of content in the ending (and beginning), it reuses maps a lot, there aren't many side quests, there's very little NPC interaction, and the textures look pretty bad for it's whopping file size. In fact much of the problem is the engine itself and the use of maegatextures, which besides creating bad textures for the large install size, limit the game to no day/night cycle, a static sky, no weather effects, very linear gameplay, and few doors that open.

Since they're talking higher res textures with Doom 4, I'm guessing it will either be very short, or reuse maps a lot, maybe both. Otherwise the file size is going to be even more ridiculous than that of Rage.

with a self appoined 'god' like Carmack leading the way-- Doom 4 will be doomed just like gods gift to pc programming John Romero's Daikatana.
Ouch--not promising after 5yrs to make Rage.

Sir, comparing Carmack to Romero is pure heresy and ignorance. Let's not forget Romero wasn't anything special, and his career failing shouldn't have surprised anyone.

This is a DOOM game we're talking about. When id makes a Doom game, it never fails. It hasn't yet, I doubt it ever will. Doom is Carmack's baby, he wouldn't kill it even if the fans ceased to exist. Hell, Carmack named the damn game. It might be the only game he actually cares about, the others are just programming practice. Doom is the reall-deal.
