any comments on the "leaked" FOOL screen shots?

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 3:18 am

vault wiki has some shots up of what is claimed to be early in game stuff from V13.

i don't personally believe it. i compared the shots to shots of Earthrise, and i think its not the same engine. (the terrain geometry and GFX rendering is off)

to me it looks like a high quality hoax using the source engine, well made recourses for a vault dweller / super mutant re-skin F3 mod, and the factory concept art as a guide line.

what say you all? (if ether Chris could comment and say "yes it is/no it isn't ours" it would be great, but I'm not holding my breath.) hay, "OC" ..... i got something for ya right here! _|_ (^.^) _|_

I posted these images first both at Polygamia, where I work, and the Fallout Wiki, which I founded.

I realize that they might seem suspicious, but maybe you might be convinced by the fact that I also posted 4 pieces of concept art at The Vault on Friday, one of which ("Badass Armor") was posted by gamesas itself only yesterday in this very forum. And I obtained the concept art and the screenshots from the very same public court documents.

The screenshots and concept art were submitted by gamesas as court evidence that the game is in production, and I was sent the court documents by someone who obtained them all. Which actually is not that hard, but requires paying a fee to certain law websites. Other than that, the documents are public.

And gamesas itself started releasing concept art because of just that: "Some of the concept art for the game has been released due to the lawsuit." If it is a hoax (which is doubtful), it is one by gamesas. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

Am I the only fallout 1/2 fan who loved screen shots? I think it is much more better for fallout MMO to be done in some kind of comic looking graphics. I really hated the how Fallout 3 gore was done, on the other hand I think this new comic look of the fallout MMO will be very suitable for bloody mess animations. Also atmosphere really feels like fallout.

well then maybe I'm wrong, but i still would like to hear what gamesas has to say about it. i never doubted that you think they are legit, or that you believe your source. i still think that someone sent you some bum scoop.

your words exactly (from vault wiki):

"Thanks to an anonymous, but reliable source, I have managed to acquire the very first screenshots from Project V13, which everyone knows is a Fallout Online MMORPG even though gamesas is not allowed to say it because of its legal struggle with Bethesda. As you can see, they show a ruined city, some supermutants and a hero with a 13 on his back. These screenshots were actually submitted by gamesas as court evidence to show that the game is in full production already."

you start off alluding to an insider tip, then end with "i got them from the court filings." so which one is it?

one of the V13 picks:

^ earthrise ^
i tried to find an earthrise with close to the same imagery, but i still see engine differences. hay, "OC" ..... i got something for ya right here! _|_ (^.^) _|_

Er, both. I got the court filings from a reliable source that wants to remain anonymous. And why the hell would anyone send me real concept art and fake screenshots in one PDF, along with hundreds of pages of legalese that refer to the aforementioned screenshots? Maybe because the Earthrise pictures are from the last build and the ones of V13 are very early? Just trying to defend the graphics, I actually like them. I was hoping for Fallout 1/2 gameplay with great graphics, and new elements and features (like the online aspect), and I got that hope again with those pictures.

Well if it helps, I'm a Fallout 3 fan (don't kill me, please), and I'm actually liking what I saw. It's an early build after all, and being an early build it looks good, with a very great Fallout feeling. Image

Here's hoping for a Beatles-themed quest on V13.

not saying they are bad, just inconsistent with how another game that uses the same engine looks.

disclaimer:

i know textures and models will look different from game to game (as they are usually generated in a external program) and i don't expect the architecture to be the same as it is being sculpted by a different artist, but ...

game engines are like a type of clay, each one has different characteristics. now like clay, if two separate artist use the same type of clay there will be shared characteristics. it is possible to alter a game engine to the point that the shared characteristics are dulled to the point of obliteration, but then your really not using the same engine any more, and i don't see the shared characteristics. i would allow for engine modification in my opinion, but frankly i don't think gamesas has had the time, money, or necessity to preform modifications. besides, if your going to mod someones engine you don't need to sign them up for engine support.

look, maybe they are valid shots from before gamesas penned in masthead and were using a different engine at the time, but i still maintain my stance that its not the same engine.

*shrug*

not trying to start a argument, sorry if i sounded like i was. my keyboard is a piece of crap and likes to freak out and refresh the previous web page when i hit the backspace key too many times in succession (deleting the post-in-progress). i had to re-write my OP in this thread 3 times because of it, and my previous post twice ... i think a bit of my frustration (as well as my natural ability to sound like an ass) slipped in. hay, "OC" ..... i got something for ya right here! _|_ (^.^) _|_

Would you say, from looking at screenshots, say that Neverwinter Nights and The Witcher use the same engine? Or Fallout 3 and Civilization IV? Or Arcanum and The Temple of Elemental Evil? I sure wouldn't, and yet they do. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

witcher was built using a heavily (in house) modded version of the aurora engine that took years to adjust to the point of not being crap.

i know nothing about civ IV, but for what its worth gamebryo is a pretty generic engine that no one uses stock.

Arcanum and TOEE were produced years apart on a continually improved in house engine.

gamesas signed the deal with masthead 8 months ago, i really doubt that they have done any kind of extensive mods on it so far, and none that would degrade the rendering capabilities.

*edit*

could you tell that KTOR used the quake 3 engine? guess what ... they do!

the aurora engine was built off of the Q3 engine, cant tell it now as the aurora has been reworked so much over the years, but way back in the day i instantly spotted the similarities just from the NWN adds in CGW (RIP). can't see them now as the engine has been reworked into a completely different beast, but that took years.

LOL, i'm really not trying to argue tho (just geeking out right now). just watch tho, Chris will probably log in this morning and say that they are legit and that they are from the earthrise engine and i will end up looking like an ass. but i still really think that its a different engine. hay, "OC" ..... i got something for ya right here! _|_ (^.^) _|_

Compare the car in this v13 screenie:

http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=3849

With the one in this Earthrise screen:

http://www.play-earthrise.com/gallery.php?type=1&page=2

(5th row, 2nd column under the 4/28/2009 section)

Too similar to be a coincidence methinks.

I doubt gamesas can comment on them at the moment due to the lawsuit.

any of you here can d/l the court documents at .08 cents per page if you get a Pacer account (just google it). Sign up.. then google for the bethesda vs gamesas case. Its at a Maryland court fyi.
Yes, the pictures are legit and yes its a very early build. Think about it, the game is far far from being finished

gamesas has until 2011 to finish the game, so yes, it's very early. Image

An specific date was given in the deal with Bethesda, but I actually don't remember what is it . But it's early 2011, I'm sure of it. Image

The screenshots mean nothing. You know nothing from some blurr pics.Advancement ,quests ,interface, lore, pvp, environment, graphic motor ,high end content, items, economy, etc, etc. You can realize nothing from just looking on these pics ,just maybe a sad/greenish poisoned zone filled with mutants environment aka fallout zone.Don't drink water and think it is whiskey boys ,because someday you may will drink water and you will get drunk...and this is just sad.Wait for conclusions be a part of the alfa/beta testers and then you can have a word about the game how it is or how it will be but in this state you cant ask for comments because there cant be comments at this stage of the game.

You better go play global agenda or other games that tend to be more action/fps style.I mean a max pain fan will really not enjoy what fallout is about .Is stupid to ask in fallout , max pain view.If you got enough 3d view from wow or lord of the rings you just can go for some counter strike fps stile or other fps hybrids that are on the market atm.gamesas wana make a special game and this game wont be an action fps with rpg elements... Anyway when I saw this screen shots...they reminded me of cr... WOW world for kids...with clowns, balloons and shiny graphics...I guess this is still just rough but I hope that it will gain a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. look...something serious and dark...also that armor looks from some ??? game...it doesn't belong here...even Warhammer terminator armor would fit here..but that high tech junkie armor no...
