Looking to build/buy gaming PC

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:30 pm

I'm looking to get a gaming PC that will be able to run these new games coming out so that I can get the full experience out of them. Mainly getting it for BF3 and Skryim but there will of course be other games that I plan to play on them. I was looking at Digital Storm computers but wasn't sure what to get because I'm not exactly the most tech savy guy. Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. I have about $200 to my name at the moment so it's not gonna be right away that I'll be buying this PC and I'm reluctant to go over $2,000 so thanks again :)

Might as well wait until you actually have the money. Hardware prices are constantly changing, etc.

Are you able to build one at all? Would be a lot cheaper.

Yeah, wait until you actually have the money to spend. The new AMD Bulldozer class of CPUs should be releasing later this month, which should lower the price on most modern CPUs a bit.

Always Build -- Never buy

buying usually comes with subpart hardware, and loaded up with useless software that the companies get paid to install onto each pre-assembled P.O.S

As they said, wait until you've got about $1000 to your name before you start going nuts, however. Assuming you were to price it right now, a new gaming rig to run everything really really well [not using items on sale] will run you probably about $1300 [if you know where to get your hardware from]. I got:

MSi motherboard i7
8gb RAM
2x 3800 HD radeon cards for about.. $700? [had one of the cards from awhile back and bought the other for $50]

My suggestion is hit up hardware forums like NCIX [if you're in canada]. You often get people whom buy the newest stuff when it comes out, O.C the [censored] out of it, then sell it when they've had their fun with it.

If you're going for Skyrim, hold back your money. According to Todd Howard they are pushing hardware as best as they could. Yes the graphics you saw on the Xbox 360 demo could be easily accomplished with any current mid range cards, but if what Todd meant is true, I suspect they might be pushing photo realistic graphics and PhyX, etc effects. That means it's better off for you to wait til October, after Tegra 3 forced another price cut on video card market.

Not anymore. The release is more like August-September time frame now for Bulldozer according to their recent Computex presentation.

To the OP, ask the question again when you have the money. By that time, AMD's Bulldozer will probably be out to compete with Intel's Sandybridge and a solid decision can be made.

I just built myself my first PC a few months back for a little over $1200. It can play nearly every game I own on max. Except Crysis. Damn you, Crysis. I really should have sprung for 8 Gig of RAM I think.

Anyway, you should really wait till you have the actual money to try and look, but you really shouldn't need to spend more then $1300 at max.

8GB would not have done a thing to help. Unless your running <512MB of RAM or something. (No gaming rig should have less than 2GB in my opinion.) Better CPU and/or GPU is all that would help.

Definitely try to learn to build your own. It's pretty easy and I was able to learn mostly myself. It helps if you got a tech savvy friend or family member to help some.

I also gotta say, wait until you have the money. Computer hardware prices drop all the time.

(And you shouldn't need to spend $2000 to make a high end pc)

You'd think that, but I like to multitask. Can't do that very well without more RAM.

Besides, I have a nice little i5 4x 3.3GHz that serves me well.

So wait until I have at 1,000 to spend and if I build it does that count the cost of the operating system and screen or just the tower? Also where can I find out how to build one because I have no idea how to at all

$1000 can get you a pretty nice gaming PC, the OS is going to be around $95 or so, with the monitor price varying. Toms Hardware is a good place to look around for build tutorials. http://www.tomshardware.com/theme-build-your-own,156.html

If count the monitor price into my rig then it cost well over $2000. Mostly because I'm using an HDTV instead of an actual monitor. However, I had this TV before I had the computer, so that may not count.

Anyway, for an OS you could probably try an OEM. You can only install it on one PC, but it's a lot cheaper.

Alright so in 2 months or so I'll be back with the money this time to build this PC. I'll research how to build it until then and maybe contact my cousin. Thank you
