Must it be a gaming laptop? You would get a much better experience if you build/buy a powerful gaming desktop and then get a small notebook for portable applications. And you should stay away from Alienware. What price range are you looking at?

How much is that one costing you? From what I've read some Alienware's are just rebranded Celvo's with a price hike because of the brand name.

Is the 14" display necessary or is there some wiggle room?

And I feel obligated to ask you if you really need the mobility or not? Desktops are cheaper and better suited for gaming than laptops in their respective price range. I'm looking for a gaming laptop too at the moment [unfortunately, I'd much rather have a desktop], after some research I have come across the Sager NP8130 as a good "bang for the buck" model in the ~$1300 price range.

http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8130-built-clevo-p151hm1-custom-sager-laptop-p-2973.html?wconfigure=yes

EDIT: Doh I took to long to post and someone brought up the desktop thing before me, that's what I get for linking someone to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKgRmO3HJzc.

NOTE: Any similarity to a business is coincidental.

And wow @ the 3 GB 555m GT Alienware is trying to sell. More GB must mean better! I went to their website for the hell of it, I like how the most expensive option is always "Alienware recommended". Also the graphics card they are trying to sell you is GDDR3 while most modern cards use GDDR5, I wouldn't get that one.

Eh laptops are good for portable applications. But for gaming a desktop is much better. Able to upgrade a desktop, plus easier access for cleaning. (I had to take apart a laptop completely yesterday, a 90 minute process with 8 different screw sizes, not too fun). And the parts in a desktop are much faster then a laptop.

Edit-Also a decent laptop meant for games isnt really that portable, the battery life will be extremely low.

Out of stock, but fantastic gaming laptop.

Edit: Although, you'd want the version with a 1080 screen.

Color me intrigued, anyone know how much of a difference 9 cell vs 8 cell will make in terms of battery life?

Yes, I would be very shocked if you are not able to run Skyrim at 1600x900 no problem. You should have already noticed you can run almost any recent game at that res with the NVIDIA 555m, right?

I looked that particular notebook up with the specs he listed. $2700! :shocking:

If you got this you'd not notice the difference in performance and probably would notice the extra $1200 staying in your pocket.

Build a desktop then, if it doesn't need to be a laptop. With a budget that high, you could max Skyrim for absolute certain, barring horrible optimization problems.

i5 2500k
GTX 570 (or hell, a 580 if you really wanted), and a second one if you find one lacking
Asus P8Z68 Pro mobo
8GB of RAM
OCZ Vertex 3
Spinpoint F3 or Caviar Black

Bam. Much more power, plus upgradeability.

Well, should you still want a notebook, these might be more attractive:

Although a desktop would get you more for your money for sure.

I just bought an ASUS G73SW mainly for the sake of playing Skyrim. It handles Oblivion with QTP3 absolutely perfectly, so Skyrim should be no problem. Way cheaper than the Alienware, and if you want a small screen you could get the G53SW.
