im looking for some new games to play

Post » Thu Dec 01, 2011 4:06 pm

first i would like to say that im semi new to pc gaming, (came over from the dark side in the last few months, my xbox is pretty much gathering dust now)but ANYWAY. Im getting fed up of shooters, but thats mostly what i have, im looking for a game that makes me feel like beast when i play it lol (something like assassins creed) but is "easy to learn hard to master". i love rpgs (oblivion,fallout3/nv,morrowind, the witcher was "ok") i tried mass effect 1 on my xbox but didnt really feel it. plus i could barely read the text on it. im looking more for an action game (thinking about just cause 2 cas i loved the xbox demo of it), im thinking of trying terria , but i have minecraft (love it) and dont want another game like it.

games i have that are like what im looking for
assassins creed (all)
red faction
mercinaries 2
splinter cell (all but double agent and have played that one)
gta san adres
red dead redmption (plus zombie one)
dead rising 2 (actully im pretty bored of this one right now, )
oblivon
fallout3/nv
morrowind (but only have maybe 4 hours in it , couldn't get into it but plan on going back)
bioshock (one and 2)

also i dont like games with nudity in them, i could deal with red dead cas it was only like a 3 sec glimps in a 30 hour game (i actually dont remember how long the game was)
and i dont like "tons" of cussing but i can deal with that

Get Deus Ex. It's an older game but it is simply awesome. Also Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is a must play PC exclusive game and IMO one of the best game series there is. Just don't forget to try the complete mods for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games.

The Witcher One is a pretty good game, i've enjoyed it quite a bit. You might also enjoy Fable 1: The Lost Chapters, it is definitely the best fable game IMO.

fable 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, it had a near perfect fourmula all they needed was more "levels" in each area ,and more quest, and possibly a bigger map. fable 3 was good game on its own but when compared to fable 2 it just didnt measure up, but thats what happens when you dumb games down for people who normaly dont play games (you know they CAN learn and its much more fun for everyone)

Darksiders
STALKER
Just Cause 2 (I've only played this on the PS3 but it is a lot of fun, I'd double check and make sure it isn't a terrible console port)

The Steam summer sale is soon it may be worth waiting for.

As much as I love Deus Ex, if he's looking for an action game, he should look elsewhere. It's about as far from being an action game that a shooter can get.

But if you're still interested, it can be http://store.steampowered.com/app/6910/ for $10. The game is absolutely amazing, and totally worth $10, but if you buy it you should just pretend like it's awful sequel, Invisible War, doesn't exist and you don't own it.

I think you should give Mass Effect 1 a chance on the PC though. The UI is so much easier to use on the PC than it is on the Xbox 360, and since you're looking to be, you can get pretty overpowered in the game if you choose the right character class and skills.

I don't think I know a game that can top Prototype in that department, you should check it out. It's a good game, I've played through it several times and its just fun to jump in and brutally slaughter a few hundred infected, soldiers and innocent civilians every once in a while. Lots of people hate it though, probably because it was over hyped. Wouldn't know about that myself, I only found out about it some time after its release and was pleasantly surprised.

Get Deus Ex. It's an older game but it is simply awesome. Also Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines.

But if you are looking for real quality pc games, these two are some of the best there are. Neither of them is really an action game, though there is lots of combat in both if you should choose to play them that way, but once you start playing you'll be so overwhelmed by the massive amounts of awesome that you won't care any more. Jag1313, I applaud your good taste.

True, but there are so many ways to play both games, it just screams "Try me!" Well, both games I recommended. Invisible War? Not so much.

Why, thank you. Two of my favorite pc games right there.

Another vote for Deus Ex. Eleven years on and in my opinion, nothing has since managed to top it's scope, immersion and freedom.

I've only put a couple of hours into S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl but it seems like an interesting game and can be had for next to nothing.

Civilisation IV will svck up countless hours of your life. I'm not normally a fan of turn-based strategy, but I absolutely love the Civ games. IV is the best of the bunch.

The original Mafia is an awesome third-person shooter set in a free-roam city. It's sequel isn't as good, but still definately worth playing.

Why has no-one mentioned Crysis? It's awesome, especially because it's exclusive to the PC.

Also, if you want RPGs I'm tempted to suggest Neverwinter Nights (the first one), but mostly because it's an old favourite of mine.

A ton of games (~1000) are sold at a discounted price (25%-75%) for a week . There are also daily deals for the duration of the sale that are even more discounted (50%-90%). You can get a lot of games during this time for a low price. Those percents are just estimations and there are some that break the rule, but you get the idea.

Deus Ex is fun, but it's stupidly difficult - very, very punishing. Not tried the new game yet.

I second the nomination for Vampire TMB.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge is quite fun - though I've only played it on the xbox. It's basically Gears of War in an elves-and-dungeons setting. I think it's solidly entertaining, but parts of it are much better than others. I play it single-player.

If you haven't tried the Orange Box/Half Life games, I'd recommend those, though they are quite puzzle-heavy so don't suit every taste, even if they are very well done.

I'd recommend Mass Effect - it plays better on the PC than on the xbox, though if you didn't like it at all on the xbox you might not be so impressed. Mass Effect 2 has much better mechanics - again, Gears of War-ish - with very satisfying combat. It also breaks up those endless cutscenes with non-annoying scripted events - press the right-mouse to do something "good" or left-mouse to do something "bad" in true choose-your-own-adventure stylee. Truly one of the best games I've ever played.

Yes, try the Steam sales - you can get games crazy-cheap there. I got GTA IV and its expansions for about five pounds a few weeks back.
