Android Phone internal storage clean up

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 5:46 pm

Ok, I've had a the gmail problem...but...it had to do with internal memory. I had 10mb left and gmail wouldn't update. Now I have 20mb free. How do I free up more space on my mobile? I've used app2sd app and I've moved everything that can be moved to the SD card. However, some stuff I can't move (like Whatsapp for example, but I doubt text messages will take up too much space).

What else can I safely remove?

Contacts storage takes up 15mb of internal memory, but it can't be moved for example. Although I don't want to remove my contacts... The rest are less than 7mb each.

I have a wildfire s and it only has 150mb of internal storage, and a good chunk of that was used up by preinstalled apps and stuff. I use an SD card of 2GB...but some stuff can't be removed apparntely, even if I don't use it (like those Peep and Plurk applications).

Thanks.

I installed diskusage and it seems that 15mb is taken up from contacts, while another 95mb is taken up from all the other small applications. It looks like I'm out of luck.

Did you root your phone? If so, use http://blog.lifehacker.com/5784857/how-to-set-up-a-fully-automated-app-and-settings-backup-on-android to remove the crapware apps

I haven't rooted my phone. You suggested I root it, but last week I was going to buy the Wildfire. I ended up buying the Wildfire S and I did not know if I could root it or not.

Will I lose everything if I root it? How do I backup everything if so? Is it easy to root this phone? (I don't want to mess things up, heck if there's a step by step guide it would be better, I'm looking for more space and better performance)

Thank you DEFRON. :)

That's a link from one of your links. Does it apply to my mobile?

Sorry, I'm new to all this mobile rooting stuff. I don't know if all android devices are the same. For the record my OS is Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread).

It looks like currently the only way to root your phone is to get an XTC clip, as the bootloader is locked. I didn't really look far into it, basically just google search your phone and "root" and see what you find.

You shouldn't lose everything. There is a very small chance of bricking your phone in some cases, but it shouldn't happen. The difficulty of rooting depends on your phone.

I see. Since my phone is just 2 months old, do you think I should wait a bit till more options are available?

Bump!

Also, anyone know a way to export my contacts to the SD card, deleting my contacts from my phone (because the space is 17mb right now...too large) and then importing the bare contacts back? I made a mistake of linking everyone and the file size grew too large. Thank you.

Also, I've been asking for help on the android forums, but no one replies to anything.
