Peripheral Advice

Post » Sat Dec 03, 2011 1:36 pm

Hey Guys,

I've just finished building my new gaming rig ready for Skyrim and now I'm at the point of picking up some good gaming peripherals. In the past I've had a Reaper gaming mouse, Z-Board Keyboard and Sennheiser Headset and I found them reasonable to use at the time but they are now far past their best. I'm looking to replace all of them to give me a fresh up-to-date set of peripherals to go with my new rig. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice on what I should look at and consider?

Oh and I mainly play RPG's, MMO's and FPS so peripheral geared toward that would be best suited.

Thanks a lot,

Well, what are you looking to spend?

These days, I like keeping an eye out for Logitech Dented Box sales. They mark off the price a whole lot for basically a brand new in box product that has a little dent on the box.

Mouse: Logitech G500 or G400. MX518 for something cheaper.

Keyboard: Logitech G110

Headphones: http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-AD700-Open-air-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B000CMS0XU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310627037&sr=8-1...or...http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50-Studio-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B000UVGI6O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1310627104&sr=8-3 ...or...http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-280-Pro-Headphones/dp/B000065BPB/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1310627372&sr=1-1

Again though, these do go on sale every now and then. I personally wouldn't pay full price for them.

Well I have about £650 left after building my new rig but I need to get a GPU and new monitor from that so will only have around £200 to spend on my gaming peripherals. I've been looking at brands like Razer, Roccat and Steel Series and they all seem to offer a really good verity of products making my choice even harder.

Been using the Logitech G110 myself and been quite happy with it, but now, I'm eyeing http://www.wirelessgamingkeyboard.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/SteelSeries-Merc-Stealth-Gaming-Keyboard.jpg. Don't if it's any good but I like the extra keys on the left. :hubbahubba: (Don't if they made it for lefties either.)

For a headset, I'd recommend the SteelSeries 5Hv2, or the 7H. As far as mice go, a Logitech MX518 or G5 would fair well. Keyboards really depend on what features you need, I have a Logitech G15 and love it.

I've never really used anything by Logitech when it comes to Mice or Keyboards, they always seem to get good reviews and people speak highly of them but imo their products look "Cheap" in comparison to others that are aimed at the same market..... maybe its just me!

For mouse, G9x or G500 depending on your preferred grip.

For keyboard, anything with Cherry MX Brown mechanical keyswitches. Filco, Leopold, Noppoo. If you don't want to shell out the money for a mechanical keyboard, don't fall for marketing for expensive rubber-dome keyboards by gaming brands. Spend $20 or less.

For headset I'd strongly recommend a pair of headphones and a separate mic over a headset, but if you're set on a headset, I'd go with the Corsair CA-HS1NA.

Every Logitech product I have owned has been of top notch quality. I've had my keyboard and mouse for many many years and they have held up fantastically. My mouse even managed to survive through the two years that I played Diablo 2, although their is a finger sized piece of paint missing on the left click button :P.

Meh make sure to keep the receipt for the logitech mouse just in case it breaks due to poor QA. G7 with the double click problem and a G5 with the random disconnects.
