Unofficial Tomb Raider Thread

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 2:03 pm

So recently been playing Underworld. It has been forever since I played a Tomb Raider game, so I keep getting stuck at the puzzles (Fortunatly theres a hint thing at every step so I wont end up like I did in Legend, in the under-water part of the Tomb in the dessert before you meet Amanda)

So is Underworld the direct sequal to Tomb Raider: Legend or was there another game between the two ?

Also any one else wanting Tomb Raider http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/8/615698_191223_front.jpg

Also lets not forget the early games (http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/bigboxshots/8/71538_41480_front.jpg was probably the one that got me into the
?series?)

I've heard of the series, but I only have Underworld and haven't even played it, yet. I'll probably get to that today or tomorrow, but if it's the archaeological fiction, platforming/puzzle-solving game series that's somewhat like Uncharted that I've heard it is, I'm interested.

I played 1,2,3 and The Last Revelation, but the series seemed to go to hell after that. Was it really 15 years ago?!

They are quite similar, but Uncharted has much higher production values and an overall much better storyline (imo). However, I love the Tomb Raider games, especially Legend and Underworld.

Legend, Anniversary and Underworld form an independent story arc, despite Anniversary being a remake of the first one.

I haven't played Anniversery but Legend had to do with the Arthorian legend (I'd really like to read the original legend ive only evr heard about it from spin offs such as Tomb Raider: Legend and random shows with similar plot I've never heard the full legend about the sword breaking or teh lady in teh lake and a black knight and what ever else) any wayback to what i was saying so.. Legend had to do with the Arthorian legend and at the end you find out your mother was probably transported to Avalon (again anotehr reason i want to read teh original legend neevr heard of this avalon befoe playing TR:L) so then the quest for "Avalon" begins but the game of Legend ends ... Havent played much of Underworld yet but seems Lara is still questing for Avalon and to find her mother

Exactly that. Anniversary on the other hand explains the nature of certain character that plays a major role later in Underworld.

so am I missing an important plot point ? or was this game skippable (anniversery) ? Legend probably a mandatory play to make sence of underworld (least im hoping)

Well it does explain the characters motivations, but i wouldn't say it's exactly essential.

I loved TR: Legends and Anniversery edition but Underworld kinda killed it for me. I got tired of the never ending platforming. IDKY but Legends and Anniversery seemed to balance out the platforming, action and puzzles quite well while Underworld seemed to tip more on more platforming, adverage puzzle solving and less on action...But that's just my opionion.

You may want to use spoiler tags before you talk about the ending of a story in the middle of a post. And the guy is called Arthur, not Arthor.

The only TR game I've played recently is Anniversary, loved it. Years and years ago there was another TR game I played and loved a lot. I'm pretty sure that it was the first one but it's been a while.

Does any one know if Auto-save can be turned off in Underworld ??

because for me its either broken or was very badly designed

only just finished the 1st level and now in a jungle area and had 11+ auto saves which wouldnt allow me to overigth with my own personal save and to delete them i had to go to my consol setting area and access the memory ...

(I usaully turn auto save off for every game I own)

I got Legend, Anniversary, Underworld and the one with isometic view back in Steam sales. Love that they gave Lara British voice :D and no more polygon spiky Lara.

Aniversary... blech, I didn't like it. The puzzles and devices were way too contrived (you don't expect tomb looters to crawl along walls, so why did ancient kings build elaborate death traps on the walls?!), and it was just plain boring. In legend, there was constant banter and talking, which was nice and helped enrich the characters and the story. In Anniversary, aside from some cutscenes, it's just laura grunting and jumping around and shooting poor innocent creatures. Grr, that part really pissed me off. Seriously, it was so unrealistic! Wolves in ruins that have been sealed for hundreds of years? What are the supposed to eat? And why do even the bats try to attack laura? And why does it take a bazillion bullets to kill them? Also, the camera svcked big time in Anniversary.

I loved TR: Legend - the portrayal of Croft was much more in line with what she's like in the comic books.

Playing through TRIII for the first time in a while. I think the old ones are the best, after Last Revelation I lost interest. I've played Anniversary through Underworld but it just doesn't give me the same feeling of exploration and adventure for some reason. Nothing can compare to breaking into the Natural History Museum in a catsuit. It has the best music too.

There are comics?

And Anniversary is like it is because it's a remake of the original PS1 game. Realism wasn't a big thing back then :hehe:

I think the comics came out when Angelina took up the role as Lara in the first movie. The PS1 game was classic dungeon puzzles with some actions over realism, like Biohazard. It's what made these games jewels.
