Angband

Has anyone else played this game?

It is heavily influenced by Lord of the Rings and D&D
It has one of the most impressive catalogues of monsters in any game, I think the tilde key lets you see the ones you have discovered and slayed. It also has a heap of unique monsters such as the nine Ringwraiths (with names) and the Tarrasque.

The gameplay is also very refined as the developer base is very large.

It has a pretty steep learning curve but I reccomend putting time into it, (using save scumming of course).

Save scumming is copying the save games to a seperate folder (as the game wipes the save file whenever you die)

Haven't played it, but obscurely, I've heard of it because I share a name with a former prominent Angband developer and was mistaken for him a few times while modding a different game.

I might check it out.

It's an awesome game once you get used to it. I play it on my phone!

I've always loved those games.

Played the original Rogue waaaaaay back in the day, and then graduated to Moria and Angband over time. (Nethack..... I don't know, I just never really "got" that game. :))

Neither did I, probably had something to do with the pets, and less LotR creatures

Ooh, rougelikes. I haven't really spent much time with it on my phone. The controls don't translate very well to a touchscreen only phone.

However, another excellent roguelike I played recently was Caves of Aid. Its in a post apocalyptic setting, and you can play either a pure human and be a jack of all trades, or be a mutant, and specialize in one or two fields. Its still in beta, but its being updated regularly.

I discovered Angband this spring, and was instantly hooked. No save scumming for me, I've rolled up and lost so many characters it isn't funny. I was doing really well for awhile, I had a http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=11318 at 41st level and was on the 62nd level of the dungeon when I got cocky. Haven't been close to that level since...

I'm a bit spoiled with my Droid 2 and its physical keyboard.

I do like my Rouge-likes. I play Nethack as I see it as the spiritual successor to the original Rouge. I also like the Doom Rougelike that was made. Has anyone tried the Angband variant TOME (Tales Of Middle Earth)? I thought it would be cool to play as an Ent, but I had a hard time figuring out how it was supposed to play.
