Question about Driver's License test

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 10:59 am

So my parents are FINALLY letting me get my driver's license after having my permit for over a year and a half, and I'm wondering, do they make you take the written knowledge test again? (I aced it when applying for my permit, so it's no big deal, just wondering if I have to take it again) or do they just put you through the skills test?

It might vary by state, but I know for New York you do not have to take another written test.

The person who administers your test might ask you a few questions that would appear on the test, but they should not be too difficult.

Depends on the state. In Maryland you just go in there and take the actual driving part. There is no knowledge test. While driving around the instructor would ask simple questions like, "What sign did we just pass?"

It varies by state? I was not aware of that. I just took the written test, and one year later, the driving test, and I had my license. I thought that was how it was for the whole country.

Nope it is by state, here in Oregon you have to take a written test to get your permit, which you can do at 15, then to get your license (at 16+) you have to pass the driving test and take another written knowledge test.

In New York you have to pay for a safe driving lecture and get a certificate before you can even take the driving test.

As others have said, it varies by state, but here in Ohio I had to take a "written" test (actually on a computer) to get my permit, then I just took a driving test a few months later to get my license.

The driving test wasn't all that difficult, either. It took about 15-20 minutes and I passed my first try. You should still definitely get a good deal of practice in before trying it though.

Pretty sure I had to take a second test here in Florida.

Since you're 18, you shouldn't have to take the written test again. But like everyone else said, it varies by state.

In Missouri, we just do the driving portion for the license.

And what you guys are forgetting is that he's asking if his permit is over a year and a half old, does he have to retake the written test.

In California your permit expires after a year and a half I believe but like I said above, you're 18 so you wouldn't have to retake that portion.

My permit expired and I didn't have to take the written test again. I think if you passed it, you don't have to do it again unless you're license is revoked.

My permit expired after 2 years(and 1 day) and I did have to take the written (computerized) test. 20 easy questions though....it literally asked what does a one way sign mean?
