Double Transverse Waves?

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 5:12 am

I was just playing guitar and noticed that sometimes when I play the first E note on the D string that not only does it vibrate like normal but it also seems to vibrate on a much lower frequency at the same time. It almost looks like when you shake a rope in front of you and make transverse waves.

Is there any science behind this or have I discovered something new? Waves within waves

Ahh that makes sense now. I was thinking that it had something to do with harmonics. All that stuff really interests me.

Thanks for pointing that out for me! :)
