Doesn't IPB offer an announcement feature like VBulletin does? You know, where you have to read a thread before you can do anything else?

At least sticky something so it can be properly ignored....

I really dont knwo why people get so mad about it.

It is not even Beth it would be Zenimax the umbrella company of Beth.

McDonalds sues people who use Mc or Donalds in the companies name, so why cant teh owners of the Elder Scrolls sue over the use of Elder or Scrolls.

Again? People need to realise that this is the big world. Mojang needs to grow up and accept that. Every time Notch makes a twitter post or blog post to rally his fanbase to his defense I cringe. If Zenimax thinks its a trademark problem then they will do something about it. If Mojang thinks they have a case against it then they can do something about it without trying to rally the internet to their side.

I actually just saw it on the home page.

And I don't know how someone can't think this is ridiculous. It's one single word in a non-existent title.

I'd like to point out something: McDonalds only has such a luxury to do so when the offender is also in the fast food industry. Trademarks are not universal. It's why a company can be the window store when they sell windows and not worry about prosecution from Microsoft.

(Yes, I know the case at hand is one between two games, just thought I should point out that you can have similar names to something so long as you are not in competing businesses -- within reason of course).

The home page....linking to the blog. Dont see how that was particularly relevant....but anywho.

As DEFRON said, its a name similar to another product in the same industry and market. Zenimax/Bethesda are obviously worried about confusion and I can understand that. Skyrim will be one of the biggest releases of the year and its perfectly understandable they dont want another group releasing a game of a similar title around the same time. If Zenimax has a case, things will go forward. If not, then no harm done and "Scrolls" will go on as before. Mojang doesnt need their fanbase running to their aid across the internet. They're big boys and can sort this out for themselves legally.

And who knows, maybe if Scrolls does get shot down Mojang will actually start developing Minecraft properly.

Bethesda's legal affairs are not up for discussion on this forum.

And honestly, a letter from lawyers is not "suing" someone. If people would take a step back and not get svcked into the knee-jerk hysteria that random information on the internet seems to provoke, I wouldn't have to be locking threads.
