Old TV + Cable

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 8:23 am

Okay, so my parents apartment has cable provided. They've got a newer tv (still old, but meh), and then they've got on old old one.

The newer one only had 13 channels, but when you go to menu, you can switch the mode over to "cable", which gets you access to the rest of the standard cable package channels. Yippee.

The other TV is old old, has a newer remote that was programmed to it. The cable could plug into the back okay. The thing is, it is stuck only getting the same 13 channels. No way to get to a "menu" option to switch over to other channels. There is a button on remote that says "cable", and hitting that has no effect. Pressing the "menu" button on the remote also has no effect.

The only identifying info on the TV is "Samsung" and "Frequency Synthesis Tuning C9307C". I'm not having much luck finding it on searches.

Anyway, do any of you know ways to get access to the rest of the cable channels through an old tv like that?

Thanks for your help.

You can probably find model number on the back.

They're likely digital only channels that you will need a TV with a digital tuner to access, or a digital cable box. The other 13 are anolog. It's probably $5/month or something from your cable company for the digital box.

OR your parent's TV has a place for a cable card, and the channels are scrambled, and so a digital tuner wouldn't be enough, you'd also need an unscrambler from your cable provider, which the digital box would accomplish.

The newer TV probably has a built-in digital cable tuner and like iGuess said the first 13 channels are anolog (though I though all channels are broadcast in digital now). To get all the channels on the older TV you need a STB box or a digital cable converter box.

Since the Apartment controls the Cable TV, I would contact your landlord and tell them you need a digital cable converter box or a cheap cable STB.
