router wont let me log in

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 7:59 am

I have a linksys e3000 router and it will not let me log in. A couple months ago, I logged into it using the default username and password, admin and admin, to forward a port. Now, I try to log in the same way, and it blocks me out. I have not changed the password, nobody in this house has changed the password.

You can reset the router to factory settings if your password has changed. There should be a reset button on it somewhere, just hold it for about 30 seconds and you should be able to use the default password again.

If you have an internet connection that requires a password, make sure you know what it is before you do this though so you can configure the router again.

Oh and I think the default Linksys username is blank (at least mine is), so try that first.

If I reset my router, will I even have an internet connection anymore? My dad set it up the first time, I don't know what that entails for my computer's connection.

That depends on the connection you have. I think DSL requires configuration, but broadband should configure automatically.

thats a wireless router, was the wireless connection password protected or disabled? if not then some unauthorized person may have gone into your router settings

My DSL requires no config.

Just reset it with the button on the back (the one you stick something small like a pen tip in) like he said, and it'll be back to the originals. If you're on a wired connection, it should be as simple as plug n play. If you're on wireless, you'll have to connect to the default wireless signal under the name of "linksys", or connect to it with an ethernet cord and configure the wireless settings with a new name and some security.

Like disabling web administration over wifi. Most routers offer it, and it will keep your neighbors from being able to lock you out of your router even if they break into your wifi

Some DSL does require configuration. PPPoE connections require the username and password be sent to initialize the connection. AT&T specifically is one that has required it before. Who is your provider?

Well, my brother changed the password without telling me. Thanks for the advice though.
