Need help getting a graphics card.

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:52 pm

Hello, I am about to purchase a graphics card for my computer, I want to be able to run games like World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, etc. on ultra settings. I don't know which graphics card is right for my computer, can I have some help selecting one?

Here are some of my system specs:

Operating System: Windows Vista Home premium (6.0 build 6002)
System manufacturer: Gateway
System Model: GT5670
BIOS: )Phoenix - Award WorkstationBIOS v6.00pg
Proccesor: AMD Phenom™ 8400 triple-core processor (3cpus) ~2.1ghz
Memory: 2942MB RAM

A link to a graphics cards that can run the games I said earlier on ultra would be perfect. If any more information is needed, just ask and I'll post it.

Thanks.

My old 512MB radeon 4850 could run Starcraft 2 on Ultra. It'd start to crap out on custom games like Nexus Wars though.

You could get a 6850 for 150$ and that'd handle any crazy custom matches.

Would any 6850 work on my computer, or are there certain ones that won't?

I don't want to buy one to find out it doesn't work with my system specs and what not. I'm not knowledgeable with this stuff.

I don't think the CPU is a good match for the 6850.

Though I have no better recommendation to offer, I just think you'd be wasting money for power you can not use. (Though I may be wrong.)

Wow, I didn't even look at the CPU.

Yeah, you might get some heavy bottle-necking coupled with the 6850.

You're working with a 300W stock power supply in that system. I wouldn't go much further than a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150467 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150545 with that and the CPU isn't the greatest to be well matched with more powerful cards anyways.

Bad idea with the stock power supply. Not recommended unless PSU is replaced.
