Libyan Civil War About to End?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 4:14 pm

I just turned on CNN, and it looks like the rebels in Libya are getting ready to push into Tripoli. They say two of Gadhafi's sons have been captured, and the Libyan government is begging NATO to get the rebels to stop. Residents in Tripoli are saying that a lot of fighting is about to go down.

EDIT: Nevermind, I came in late. The rebels are already starting to take the city. People in Tripoli are saying that there will be a "massacre" and a "humanitarian disaster."

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

They aren't getting ready, 90% of Tripoli is already captured.

Last I heard they were already in Tripoli and there was a big battle. This was a while ago.

http://blogs.aljazeera.net/liveblog/Libya from Aljazeera. Constantly refreshing BBC pales in comparison.

Yeah, the Libyan Civil War is basically over. Gadhaffi loyalists are either dead, hiding, or currently being shot at by rebels.

Kind of neat to see successful revolutions happening today. We're watching history here live, with front row seats.

Not that it's really all that entertaining. People are getting killed, so.

Well this thread is oddly political.

Somebody locked the White House Rick roll one.

But I'm happy to hear some news about progress in Libya.

Yes, this is more or less a done deal already: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/08/22/heavy-clashes-near-qaddafi-compound-as-rebels-overtake-most-tripoli/

Without entering in politics, the political turmoil is probably just starting. We knew what we left, we don't know who and what are these rebels. In the best case, it will turn to a political mess, everyone claiming a part of the power, in the worst case, with the amount of weapons in circulation, it will keep a civil war condition like in Iraq.
By the way, to come to a less "political" point, I made an interesting discovery on gaming and "arab revolution". But I prefer to open another thread.

This is political and as such not permitted.

Please do not post any more - I can't lock it as I am on my phone, but I will be home soon and back to check.

Thanks guys.

No doubt it's going to get a bit messy. With the alternative being Gadhaffi however...
