Does anyone else know this?

I was looking online for norse names which I may use for my Nord when Skyrim is out, (still clueless), and I came across this.

Gimp - Originally a by-name related to the Norwegian and Swedish dialect term gimpa, "to sway one's buttocks."
Occurs as a by-name in Sweden. Anglo-Scandinavian forms include Gimpi, Gympe.

Did anyone else know that?

Makes you laugh at the fact there were some poor buggers called it :P

I didn't know it, but I did now.

"Gimp" has various meanings in English: as a sixual reference, as a casual insult, and as the name of a piece of modding software.

Hmm, can't find that definition in my OED: it seems to be more concerned with "silk, worsted or cotton twist" and stuff. The closest it seems to get is "a corruption of gammy"; maybe one of the Additions volumes covers the more Tarantino-like meaning, but I'm too idle to look...

That word always reminds me of The Gimp from Pulp Fiction, I had no idea it was actually a name.

Well, there's always the Danish name Cnut, which has been intentionally and unintentionally mis-spelled by English speakers on numerous occasions.

If you have ever seen my disabled husband walk, you'd undertstand why gimp's definition is applicable. He's got more sway than three drunken sailors in the middle of a Miami street during Hurricane Andrew. Only he manages to remain upright.

Which reminds me, I walked into the living room last night to see what he was up to, and he was playing Fallout 3. He was shooting supermutants in the leg, crippling them, while saying "Walk like me, [censored]" as they went down. It perversely amused me.

Also with reference to disability, or a restriction, e.g. Bethesda have gimped magic again.

I'm sorry, did someone ring me?

I have a mod that gives all raider women the face of my ex.. :whistling:

My therapist said it wasn't entirely unhealthy behavior.

I asked it I could send her screenies of headshots.

And apparently, that would be unhealthy, spoil sport :glare:

..and of course he says it just after I've put together a folder with nine- or maybe fourteen thousand screenies :meh:

I knew. Having Swedish family and natural sway tends to summon that phrase.

Well, that in turn comes from the first thing princess_stomper mentioned. :hehe:

Use "Gympe" it's original, foreign and cool. I'm pretty sure "Gimp" will be used while "Gympe" will be unexpected. But I don't know, just trying to maintain a bit of originality here.

It's not just modding software, it's picture editing software; I use it as a free alternative to Photoshop. Not as fancy, but it still gets the job done. Just calling it modding software would be like saying that flour is only used to bake bread.
