Horrible ending

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:58 pm

Anyone else extremely disappointed with the ending of this game? I never once even used bfg rounds. This game was way to easy to beat. No where near enough boss fights. First time I have ever been upset with id.

Yeah, read 99% of the threads here and you'll find out you're not the only one. Thanks for adding another thread to this topic btw.

It was terrible. Terrible, terrible. Like you, I didn't even pull out my BFG because I was saving the rounds for a boss. There were missions much more challenging than the last one. I had like 7 grand at the end its like there was no reason for me to even collect or spend it. Toward the end, the subway town races became blocked off because of the authority presence so I didn't get to do any of those races and there was plenty more for me to acquire for my buggies. I think I saw and completed a total of ONE sewer drain. There were more vehicle jumps where you smash into the floating bots for me to do. And what the hell even happened in the closing cinematic? An ark door opens and then something flies into space? WHAT?! How disappointing.

they even took a full year to tighty up and perfect the game, how did they not know that ending is total crap, they HAD to of known with their game history c'mon!

hopefully they will continue the game and give us something, a free expansion to complete the game

More like COULD have been a good game, were it not for the lack of a good beginning, minimal number of quests, limited AI interaction, lack of exploration, omitting of Wasteland Sewers, ease of killing Mutants and Bandits, static sky, static weather, no day/night cycle, few doors that open, no destructible environments, linear gameplay, limited map size, very poor texture quality, few and easy boss fights, AND a crap ending to top it off. MOST of those are limitations of the megatexture concept. Carmack should be looking for another job by now.

Visceral's Dead Space 2 and Techland's Dead Island both blow this game out of the water, and at much smaller file size.

If anybody has played Fallout 3 I wonder if they will make a DLC to continue the game. In Fallout 3 they made Broken Steel so I hope they make something like that. I looked up the ending before I beat the game to make sure that the game wouldn't end and I still didn't beat it yet. :flamethrower: :(

Dead Space 2 was not as good as the first one and suffered from identity crisis because EA is just never happy with the money they make and Dead Island was a propaganda game so in my opinion Rage was better than both but not as good as Dead Space which was a solid game.

Rage did have good character animations though. I found those to be particularly good, not as good as others or classic games but a nice turn in a good direction.

deadspace 2 was way better than the first in my opinion and it was first one that had the "idenitity crisis" being that it seemed to borrow a lot from other horror games especially doom 3 and resident evil, it was original in some ways, i think the tone and everything of the first is also great, but the second one improved on so much and set the game into its official identity set standards and went way beyond the greatness of the first, the 3rd is gonna be even better

Totally agree, and at least you gave reasons why you thought the first had a so called ID crisis. It was also far more plain and repetitious than the 2nd, and had horrible mouse support. Most that liked the 1st more than the 2nd claimed it had more and better shock horror moments. I didn't happen to think so. If anything, the bulk of the gameplay in DS 2 had more moments of trepidation, many with dark visual shock factor, like the long dark hallway with the brutes in the first part of Chapter 10, then the narrow dark hallway before going to fix the centrifuge with lots of different monsters attacking.

The boss battles with the Tripods and Tormentor were very good too. In DS 1, most of the battles were too easy. You could just sit back and shoot from a distance. When a boss fight required evasive maneuvers, it was easy as pie to just strafe back and forth. DS 2's hardcoe mode allows only 3 saves the whole game, which gives it more replay value and a feeling of more fear and challenge. It also has New Game+, and a LOT of players now refer to being able to carry over your gear and status as New Game+ in other games.

Personally I think Viceral's concepts with Dead Space, of course beginning with the first, are very original. Besides the above, their use of holograms and suit lights for pickups, interactive items, coms, stasis and health are ingenious and leave the screen less cluttered and more cinematic. The 2nd game improves visually and in gameplay, with a good variety of maps, excellent zero g representation, and even more dynamic cinematic moments. I still have that scene stuck in my head where you eject from a launch pod and fly through space with your suit while dodging space debris, culminating with a crash through a roof and use of boot thrusters to decelerate.

Dead Space 2 is still one of my top picks for Game of the Year. The only one that comes close is Dead Island.

And I wouldn't sit around waiting for a free expansion for a game that's going to be expanded through MORE THAN 1 GAME. READ BEFORE POSTING PEOPLE!!!! I really don't feel like it's asking for so much. The developers have mentioned all of this many many times. So here it is...AGAIN. They are turning this story into multiple games on multiple platforms. Dlc here shortly and multiplayer dlc sometime next year. Sweet babies. Why is it so hard for people to get this? :brokencomputer:

calm down its a forum , you should expect it

and the problem isnt with the "open ending"

the problem is with how crap the end level was, how anti climatic it was, it was like 1/3rd of a level that was easier than a fetch quest

In a nut shell, awesome game but imo could have used a better ending too. ~ maybe that huge mutant that we had to kill with the rocket launcher.
But in the end he was a cyborg type that climbed up that elevator shaft and we had to deal with that for 20 mins etc. and then finally press that last button.
Really though if the last bit movie was longer, (maybe 10 minutes) it would have been much more satisfying imo.

Though I agree it does set things in place to build upon.. however we could have used a "to be continued" prompt to show up. ;)
~ or even better a 2-way selection: go this route you die but you save the world, go this route everyone lives but not as happy. :D

Look at it this way, you saved the world and killed all those dern mutants!
~ good thing, otherwise we would have dirty water and not enough dog food for everyone.

Duh. Thats because it's not the end. I mean is it really that hard to comprehend? What exactly are you trying to correct? The story line isnt over yet. That's why it's an "open ending". Good god. And yeah obviously it's a forum. And obviously this another pointless post about how "terrible" this game is. Blah. Whatever. Ignorance is bliss people so keep showing just how little you actually know.

I understand there was room for expansion at the end of this game before I posted this. Knowing that did not change my opinion of spending 60 bucks on a game that was not worth 60 bucks. Ending svcked, not enough bosses,
and not enough difficult game play

The ending was left open for further additions and future games.

I'm generally very supportive of Rage, but I do agree that this particular part of the game could certainly have been beefed up more, and without doing much in the way of harm to leaving the ending open. A better excuse to make some use of that BFG was definitely needed.

If youve read the book then the ending dose make more sence and i feel The game pulled it off but im sure some people had questions or thought it was lacking so here is a snippet taken from the book-
SPOILER ALERT!!!! ---->

Before these emerging Arks, they had been a mere resistance, with all the weaknesses and
hopelessness that such movements can bring.
Now, on this new day, it turned.
It changed.
It was no longer a resistance.
It was a war.
For all those who had lived in fear, who were imprisoned or brutalized—for everyone who hated the
Authority with a rage that seemed to consume their lives—on this day …
… it began

Now this ending leaves the game open for a sequel.

its not the "ending" that was bad

its the whole end level, thats what we mean, the actual level , how easy it was, no boss or anything, no real use for BFG rounds, and you press a button thinking the level is going to continue on more, and then credits roll out of nowhere, the game is incomplete feeling

theres plenty of games that end with "open endings" where you still felt completely satisfied

with this it ends like you just got cut off and it doesnt feel good , im sure almost everyone sat there with a WTF expression on their face

that, is not good

I wouldn't say that the entire last level was bad. The problem for me was that it just fizzled out. You hear of a mutant army that the authority are creating, you're going somewhere that nobody knows about, you're being let loose with the real artillery now, you're being told that you'll be up against something nobody has seen before, and then ... nothing. It's like as if Star Wars had ended just before the Death Star attack, or if Quake II (or Doom 3) had ended on the second-last map.

I understand how that fits in with the story, and I understand how it works in the book, but a book is a different medium. With a game you've put in the investment and now it's time for the payback, but the payback just didn't come. The game was awesome up to that point. It didn't need to be a case of you destroying the authority, it didn't need to be anything that would have impacted on the story, it could even have been another giant mutant, or a bunch of the rocket launcher guys, just something to give you as the player a recent sense of having achieved sometthing when the credits roll.

yeah, i personaly would have loved the game to end like the book, Raines last mission was epic, its took place in 2 locations, the old aircraft carrier and the prison, plenty of intense fights, an almost endless horde of authority controlled mutants, the death of a freind and then the arks digging their way to the surface. Obviously way better than i can describe it here as i don't want to spoil it.
