Is this system enough to run Rage?

Hi,

having issues getting RAGE to run, have been through the forums and tweaked as i can, but i might be pushing it up hill, is this spec going to even run the game properly.

My system is a Win 7 Intel 2.33 Dual Core, 4 G ram with a HD 4850 512mg Graphics card.

After getting the game to stutter i'm wondering if i just don't have the specs to get to going well and should give up until i upgrade.

Thanks.

Try dropping the resolution, turning off antialiasing completely, turning off anisotropy, and setting the texture memory to "small" instead of large, if you haven't already.

Your 4850 is much faster than the minimum ATI card listed for recommended sys reqs, recommended, not minimum. Your RAM meets rec spec too. They do however recommend a quad core CPU. It helps with texture streaming, esp on ATI GPUs which can't use GPU Transcode.

That said, a GPU is only as good as it's driver support. When I had an X1950Pro, it didn't last long because ATI relegated it to Legacy driver support a few years after it came out. You also have only 512MB VRAM, so don't even try enabling the 8192x8192 texture tweak, esp without GPU Transcode.

This is clearly a game that weighs in favor of Nvidia GPUs, but that's largely due to ATI not being as diligent at offering features like Nvidia does, and staying on top of driver support. I don't miss my days on ATI GPUs, 7 miserable year's worth of frustration I could have done without.

If your problem is mainly stuttering vs low frame rates, you might want to try using Direct3DOverrider to enable Triple Buffering with VSync on in game.

It should run just fine.

Hell yeah , i"m playing Rage on my 4 year old laptop with much weaker specs then yours smoothly.

Toshiba vista laptop dualcore t8100(2 times 2,1ghz) 3gb with atihd3650 with lousy 265mb :

i can max it out at my laptop (1280*800) AA off and it plays and looks great.

with latest rage update and latest catalyst from ati i can even play with textures set to large.
only downside is when entering a new area the textures are messed up (not the case with textures set to small though).

256mb on my mobility gpu proves way too low for the above problem , but there"S a workaround for this.

i just enter the new (pixalated) area with cache set to large .... , i save ... , i end the game to menu screen and load the game i saved before.

eveything works perfect now with cache set to large.
