How long has it been taking people who need new email

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 4:37 am

This is Holycannoli, using an alternate account because I no longer have access to the email address tied to my real account. I sent a PM a few days ago but haven't heard anything yet.

It's not a major problem, but it is an annoying one.

Are you using the automated system, or actually trying to contact someone? It's interesting you ask because I just came back to the community myself and couldn't for the life of me remember what my password and email were when I first signed up, so I looked myself up on the member list, send myself a PM, and then checked my email accounts to see which one it was. Knowing the email I had used, I was able to then request a new password. It took just a few minutes, as each time the system sent me an email almost instantly.

I no longer have access to the email I registered with all those years ago. The forum breach requires everyone reset their passwords, and I've Forgotten My Password sends instructions to that email. I need my account changed to my current email so I sent Gstaff a PM (this temporary account is not using my current email so it should not conflict).

It was dumb of me to not update my email when it changed, but no use crying over spilled milk.

Hasn't responded in two weeks huh? That's quite a long time.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have no idea what long forgotten isp email address I used in 2006 to join. I knew that Gstaff would probably be flooded with requests by angry people so I did not bother to pm him. I guess I will just keep this new account and lose my 1600+ post count. Anyway I like my new name better so it is not a big deal to me.

Gstaff has been at PAX so he hasn't been in the office to sort out the new requests that have arrived, Hopefully he will as soon as he gets back and catches up.

Gstaff responded very quickly to me on the second day after the breach. Unfortunately my new email doesn't receive every message that is sent to it so I didn't get the new link.

Also if you make a new account be aware that Gstaff "can't easily change an email address to the current email if it's already being used with a current account (as was the case with sbr32)". The email I used for my temp account was the same one I wanted moved to my old account and it was a bit of a pain apparently.

I got a response from 'Henning' (is this GStaff?) within about 12 hours. All I got was a new password to enter my old account.

Henning is IT, Gstaff is the Senior Community Manager but both can deal with the problem.

Moderators are not able to deal with this, so we pass this information onto anyone who asks us about it -

The forum had a breach recently and everyone's password has been reset as a precaution. You should have received an email to that effect, but if the account you initially used when signing up is no longer in use, you won't be able to do the reset. If this is the case, you need to send a message directly to Gstaff. Let him know the details along with an e-mail you want associated with your account. Please note that the e-mail address you give him cannot be associated with any other forum accounts, including this temporary one you have made.

Yeah I read about that, so this temporary account has it's own email address I created just for it.

What I'm wondering about is if he's gonna want some proof of account ownership or something. If he does I don't know what to say other than "yeah it's me, don't worry".
