"Scary" monster plants from TV-series/movie in my ch

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 7:24 am

Okay, so I've been searching for the answer to this question for months now on TVTropes, Wikipedia, various other forums etc. so now I turn to you guys for help.

Approximately 10 years ago (could be one or two years in any direction from there actually) I saw an episode of a TV-serie/a movie featuring these trees who ate humans. It was a sci-fi-themed show, and the story focused around a crew on a space-ship (or possibly some form of weird submarine, but I doubt it. And I know, that narrows it down right?). I watched Star Trek: Voyager as a child so I don't think it's from there, but no guarantees.

Concerning the trees: They consisted of three trunks who extended out from a middle point. These trunks only had a small amount of foliage at the top of these trunks (which were about ten feet/3 meters tall) and no real other twigs to talk about. They used vines to pull people towards this central mass where their mouth was and eat them. What I remember most vividly was how the trunks were always shaking and the trees constantly growled or "moaned" as they attacked people.

I know this is horribly limited information, but thanks for any help you can give. The reason I'm looking is that I spent almost two years afraid of being alone in our garden because I imagined these growling trees everywhere, trying to eat me, and I'd like to now, many years later, just relive what I found so scary. Again, thanks in advance!

I meant the predator in the clip, not the prey. Or are they liken to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0nRZruZ3yM&feature=related? I'd always though that was a plant in Alien Mine, but I guess not.

Not a tree, but the tentacles and eating people remind me of http://a264.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/55/l_b9d5eec55e3ea6fcf96a4236d99ea687.jpg.

Edit: Never mind, not sci-fi.

Yeah, that was one of the things that came to mind with me, too; or perhaps the lamentable "Rules of Luton" ("You can't call it that!" said someone to the producer, thinking of the well-known town more famous for making rusty cars, which just made him more determined) of the rather poorer later series.

There's also Day of the Triffids, which it could be, but that was more post-apocalypse than sci-fi, or perhaps Doctor Who's "Seeds of Doom", though that's perhaps stretching it a bit.

It seems he disqualified alien plant life, but still maintained a small list of alien plant life anyways, I'll look through this, thanks!

I've checked you other guys' links, but so far nothing. Thanks for trying though.

Sounds like it could be an episode of the Outer Limits.

One movie I can remembet involving trees is one that has a druid babysitter... The Guardian

Funny, I seem to recall something very similar to what your described in your OP, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was either. I looked through that entire llist, and google'd images for a lot of 'em, but nothing jogged my memory. Seems your quest has turned into mine as well.

Quick!... find denier an answer so I know if it's the same thing I can't recall as well!
