Synopsis

David and Amy Sumner (James Marsden and Kate Bosworth), a Hollywood screenwriter and his actress wife, return to her small hometown in the deep South to prepare the family home for sale after her father's death. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, including Amy's ex-boyfriend Charlie (Alexander Skarsgard), leading to a violent confrontation.
Straw Dogs is very intense throughout, and the direction and acting are spot on. The characters are all very well written, and there's never a moment when you know whats going to happen next. The film is brutal even in scenes lacking violence, and it captures the passive aggressiveness of small town life perfectly. The climix of the story does not disappoint in the least, and the whole theater was in a commotion at the peak of the climix. I will say though that I might be a bit biased, since I know too well what small town life is like(having grown up in a small town). Some of the cinematography was really kick-ass (especially in the last scenes!). There is one gripe I have, but I'll put that in a spoiler. Overall 9.5/10

The couple doesn't let the bumpkins in the house because they were protecting the mentally handicapped guy, and other then just "it's the right thing to do" I didn't really see a reason why they were protecting him.
