Steampunk literature in an American Wild West setting?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 5:36 am

That's what my own fictional world keeps shifting to (and I love it), so of course I'm trying to find some literature inspiration. Give it to me, baby! (please)

I have no idea if such litterature even exists, but if it does I want to read it.

I believe it's also called Weird Western, but I think that gets too Sci-Fi. I'm talking Fantasy mixed with American Wild West. Stephen King's Midworld, really. That kind of thing, but with more magic.

I've already recommended this to you, but for the others reading:

Alloy of Law, by Brandon Sanderson. Definitely wild-west, and pretty steampunky too I think. Really cool magic system, too. It's part of his Mistborn series, and I've not read all of it, but what I've read and heard seems good.

I can't think of anything else at the moment. I suppose Dark Tower kind of fits, but I think you've read that already. You might also want to try strait up westerns for inspiration.

Every Western I've read is really corny and has incredibly bad/dull writing. :/

I've not read it, but I've heard Iron Council by China Mieville is quite western-y. And I've read one of his other books, set in the same universe, and that was very steampunk-y. Also he's one of the greatest sci-fi authors ever.
