Right Brain Development

Maybe you just need to focus on a certain style within one of the things you've tried. There's several styles of writing for example. Novels, short stories, poems, lyrics and so on. Same with being a photographer too, there's more to it than journalism and taking pictures of car wrecks.

Yeah, I'm not making up excuses for dropping photography. It has to do with the time in my life and losing a dad and brother in 2 short years. I was an emotional wreck for the early part of my 20s so things that interested me just drifted off. As I got older, I haven't found it nearly as compelling.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not saying they were excuses when you dropped it, I was thinking more along the lines of "are they still valid reasons not to do it now?". Perhaps I came across too harsh, apologies if so.

Yeah the book I mentioned in my last post talks about how the right brain helps give context to the left brain. So things like humor and metaphor are understood in the right side and if that side is damaged, certain people can't understand it.

Why not write something about computers like your friend suggested.

Writing - I have a friend, who's a writer and film maker and he tells me that I tell awesome stories. When we're hanging out, he says that I have a special ability that he doesn't see in most people to capture a story and present it in an interesting and often times funny way. He also said that if I would start honing my skills that I could be a master story teller. The problem is, writing to me is so clunky and inhibiting. I don't know, it's just extremely tedious sometimes and doesn't really feel like I'm being creative.

That's tough and in a way I know what you mean, because I had a personal episode in my life many years ago and by listen to music I eventually I could move on with my life.

You could try do something you haven't done for a long time. Is there anyone who haven't spoke with or is it something you did in your youth that you didn't do these days?

Oh gotcha.

They're not still valid reasons for not engaging in those activities.

No not at all....don't sweat it. It just sounded to me like you may have thought I was making excuses and I wasn't. Please don't feel bad about it - I almost didn't post those details but hey, it's my life so there ya go. It's been over 20 years since those events and I'm much better now.

I personally think all that left-brained/ right-brained stuff is a bunch of [censored].

All it really takes to unleash the creative juices is something you're interested in. It doesn't matter if you're not that good at it, with time you'll get better if you're enjoying what you're doing.
