Custom Built PC For Skyrim?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 12:11 am

Hi, I'm kinda new to the whole "custom building" thing, I'm not even sure this is the right place to post this topic, and I'm sorry if it is not.
Anyway, would it be possible for someone to reccommend a PC/custom built pc to be able to play Skyrim on high - ultra settings? I'm not sure which websites to go to to purchase the parts either.
I was hoping to spend at the very maximum $1000, but I'm not too sure now as Skyrim's graphically intensive game so far...
So would $1000 be too low for a budget? I don't need a monitor/keyboard/mouse or anything like that as I already have them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.

Useful link:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1247846-the-community-tech-thread-no-109/, over in the Community forum. People are constantly asking build advice there. :)

(And yeah - $1k is plenty)

post your question in the thread that's been linked to and we'll be able to help. also mention whether you have the ability to self-assemble components or not. also verify that you are in australia.

1000 dollars is plenty, especially if you don't need things like a mouse.

I would go to newegg.com and look around for parts. If you have never built a PC before there is a video on newegg with good information.

My advice would be to never purchase the latest hardware, but go a few models back. The performance will still be at the top, but the price will be much lower.

I would highly recommend either TigerDirect or Newegg for purchasing your parts. Between the two you can always find a good deal. If your budget is tight I would say go with an AMD cpu (best cost-to-performance).

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727 --- cost 130
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131754 --- cost 150
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277 --- cost 27
Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102918 --- cost 350
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139024 --- cost 110

Total parts cost = $770
Total including shipping = about $800

There you have it my friend. Ultra settings all the way.

exorior's recommendations are pretty good but if you want better performance go with an intel processor... they are much faster.

Right here within this forum, there is already a thread covering at least part of what you want to know, right on the first page, but given the extent of your question, take it instead to the Community Forum's tech thread.

I just built my computer for Skyrim last week. These are the specs:

Intel Sandy Bridge 2500k 3.3 Ghz
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler
Asrock Extreme4 Gen3
8GB G. Skill RipJoaws X DDR3 1600
EVGA Geforce GTX 570 SuperClocked 1280 MB GDDR5

The case and HDD aren't important, but you get the idea. With the case I got and 3 extra fans this PC came to about $1000.

EDIT: Do not go AMD like some of these other people are recommending... At least not if you want to get a lot more power out of your system. Plus with this setup I gave you it should be a piece of cake to overclock for even the most novice gamer out there. I get it up to 4.7 Ghz without breaking a sweat.

QFT. I only linked the AMD solution because of the budget constraints. An i7 system would be a few cents more to say the least.

That being said, if you got room to breathe on that budget a bit, there's no denying that a more pricey intel will net you better performance.

Thanks, but what case should I get? Would it matter?
