Anti virus software that doesn't interfere with games

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 7:46 pm

So I just did a clean up of my computer to get it running like new. However, I would really like to find a good anti virus program that will help keep it clean but not interfere with what I do. The last software I used was bitdefender and it wrecked my computer. Programs like After Effects and Premier kept crashing and as soon as I uninstalled it everything worked fine.

What do you guys use?

Avast, it has a "Silent Gaming" mode where it disables all pop-ups, updates and schedules while ingame.

Microsoft Security Essentials is what i've used since AVG got bloated. Light, effective and free, and of course perfectly integrates with Windows.

My anti virus has a "gamer mode" which turns off all things within my anti virus that might affect online play. I have webroot security essentials

Avast! and ESET NOD32 as mentioned both have a game mode that'll disable notifications when playing games.

MSE doesn't have such an option, but given that it is extremely limited in proactive defense, it doesn't really need one.

Avast! and MSE are free, NOD32 is pay.

I've been running NOD32 v.4 for 2 years now, and I've had no issues when gaming. Generally, it's my habit when I game to disconnect from the net and temporarily disable the AV. I do forget to do this on occasion yet the AV has caused no issues. So far, I have no games that require me to be online when playing, which would require the AV to be enabled and fully active.

Just to chip in to support Microsoft Security Essentials. It's the easiest, quietest, least resource using antivirus I have ever used.

Another vote for MSE. I personally use a mix of MSE as my A/V and Comodo as my firewall.

NOD32 is what I use and never have an issue. I usually turn off all but the most important of notifications however so unless something slips in while I am gaming I never even notice my antivirus running.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials with Windows 7. It's all you need and is free. Also if you have updates set to install automatically it updates itself all the time. Get it here at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials
