How about "new" co-op/multiplayer RPG dear Bethesda?

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:17 am

We sure know that you Bethesda can make really good games like Skyrim, Fallout, Rage etc. But there isn't any good RPG with Campaing Co-Op with 2-6 friends well for consoles yet.

Skyrim with Co-Op would be perfect game but like we have noticed there ain't going to be any The Elder Scrolls with Co-Op so what if you make one from another "new" game?

If I am allowed to propose there is really good pen&paper RPG called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C3%A2rnMaster.
Harnmaster has quite "real life" feeling rules. Lot's of detailed information about http://www.columbiagames.com/cgi-bin/query/cfg/harnsubcategory-harnmaster.cfg like http://www.columbiagames.com/cgi-bin/query/cfg/harnsubcategory-map.cfg and everything in it like http://www.columbiagames.com/cgi-bin/query/cfg/harnsubcategory-city.cfg, http://www.columbiagames.com/cgi-bin/query/cfg/harnsubcategory-kingdom.cfg, etc...
There is lots of http://www.columbiagames.com/cgi-bin/query/cfg/harnsubcategory2-HQ.cfg already and with those there would be nice pack of spending time with friends already.
With same game engine, Harnmaster rules and world, 2-6 players Co-Op it would be brilliant game.

I think that getting rights to make this game would be any problem to Bethesda.

There has been a long time now in Harn community about that this game (Harnmaster) should be computer and why not console game aswell. (I would like console more (PS3) =D ).

This was just proposal but I would be really happy if you can do this and I think that there would be lots of others aswell. Only thing would be that you should follow those rule books as much as possible! Many RPGs what have done with title of pen&paper game mistakes has been that they haven't follow those rules what has been printed to rule books!

More info would be found at:
http://www.kelestia.com/ (website is authorised by the estate of their creator, N. Robin Crossby.)
http://www.columbiagames.com/
http://www.lythia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10988

It would be nice to have any feedpack from Bethesda about is this possible or not.

Sorry about my bad english!

Thank you!
:foodndrink:

My suggestion it to wait for Borderlands 2 because thats as close as you are gonna get to a multiplayer RPG, that or Fable 2/3

No thank you. I'd rather Bethesda keep concentrating on their very successful single player RPGs. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

What 'e said. I see a lot of requests to turn good single-player franchises into what'll probably be bad multi-player versions; can't say I'm keen on the idea, and wouldn't be enthusiastic even if they weren't terrible. I'd much prefer that they kept their efforts devoted so single-player games and let the existing multi-player franchises cater to that particular audience.

I voted "No"... but to be fair I am also not buying any more Bethesda titles so my answer would still have been "No" even if I supported multiplayer (which I don't).

I'd definitely buy it. Playing a game like skyrim in co-op with a friend would be pretty fun.

Bethesda didn't make Rage, and on all accounts. Todd Howard has expressed that he prefers doing single-player games and a new IP for them is not what i want.

Eh, I'd play a co-op RPG, just as long as there wouldn't be any differences, other than having another person in-game.

It doesn't work like that. If it's co-op, it's going to be different.

Alright, same game experience for the host. The other person can just be a "guest" to the host's game world.

To be honest, I don't think Bethesda is capable of making a good multiplayer game. It's not something they have really done, so why start all of the sudden and, quite probably, they'll alienate a large portion of their fanbase. If you want to play co-op, go for Ass Effect 3.

There are technical stuff that goes along with it. You know, in Oblivion, while you were in first-person, you were just a pair of floating arms and legs. You would have to change that for co-op, and just changing that, they'll have to change some other stuff. Plus, scripted events.

I have played Borderlands and yes it was really good and that was positive that you can play same story as Single Player Game as Co-Op with my friends via online or with my wife using split screen. Only thing is that I feel that it's more like FPS with RPG elements than pure RPG. My friends and I would like to have good fantasy RPG like The Elder Scrolls saga but with Co-Op so I can enjoy that game with my friends or my Wife.

EDIT: I have played once alone (singlemode) once with two friends via online and ATM playing it with my wife with splitscreen. I have to buy Borderlans 2 when it comes out. Opportunity to play games alone, with friends via online and with wife using splitscreen gives lot's more to play the game over and over again.

Well you are quite civilized person and I think your mother is really proud having you. Let's :foodndrink: for that mate!

Well that's only thing what I and my frinds are missing form these good single player RPGs. If you can recruit NPC at Skyrim (I have read some where that it's possible) why those NPCs can't be your friends playing their characters? They dosn't need to make any other changes from game I think? (Well I'm not making any computer/video games so I don't know is that hard to make to the game.)

I didn't know that Mass Effect 3 has multiplayer, thank you for giving that information.
One thing is that it's not Fantasy RPG.
Second thing is that If it's like Mass Effect 2 it's not so free world travel as any The Elder Scrolls games, Two World 1 and 2, etc..
Third thing is that I can't enjoy that single player campaing with my friends. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_Effect_3

PS. To all you whos day I was ruined with this topic just vote or not and skip the topic. No need to stay and show how mature you are. Thank you! All you others with mature and civilized replys thank you for those!

PSS. Sorry my bad english, it's not my mother language!

That is the reason why I was proposing a new game with Co-Op and what take place at "Fantasy world".

Well, if the ME2 is anything to jugde by, then you're probably right, ME3 won't be free-roam. Which is a bummer.

And your english is fine as it is, so no need to to apologize it.

The problem with that is that it would take away a lot of time from making these single player franchises that they already have. We already have to wait 5 years for a new TES/Fallout, why take on a third project and make us wait longer for all three?

Plus, I don't see why everyone thinks a multiplayer game by Bethesda is going to be good, anyway. They've never done it before, and it completely contradicts the style that they make their games in now. I say let them stick to what we know they're good at.

if it was handled in the way that they handled it in the first NWN, where single player / multiplayer was well merged, but only if it was applied in that fashion. Which for some reason because of involving quantum mechanics and stupid managers, is impossible to duplicate.

So basically, no.

I think I'd rather have some company that's good at multiplayer try to do that, and let Bethesda keep doing their single-player thing.

(I'd also like someone to figure out how to do cross-platform multiplayer. I've never played Borderlands, or Portal 2, or almost anything from the last 10 years, multiplayer. Because I've got a PC and a PS3, and all my game playing friends have X360's. I even play MMO's "solo", because the idiots who got me hooked on them then left, and I've no interest in joining up with "randoms" to do anything.)
