Hey all,

So my university's wired internet network is very unforgiving when it comes to connecting to Xbox Live, specifically an issue with the Marketplace, which keeps me from accessing certain aspects of certain games, and specifically with connecting to EA Online (and therefore Battlefield 3, which has it's own issues, but that's neither here nor there).

Now I'm going to be talking with a friend who works in the school's networking department about a possible fix (I think it's a firewall issue but can't be sure), but I thought I'd ask you all out of sheer curiosity which brands of routers to avoid if I'm looking to connect it to my Xbox 360, if there are indeed any that aren't compatible.

And where to find said routers for cheap. I checked Amazon, but wasn't sure what types wouldn't work out - hence my presence here among you now. :tongue:

Thank you all for any and all advice you'd be willing to give concerning this issue, or if anyone is familiar with dealing around restrictive internet connections, I'd love to hear what you have to say.

I use a Linksys and it works just fine. Don't know about what doesn't work, but this sure does.

You could always call Microsoft tech support and see if they have any info.

Why do you think a router would help? Any internet connection coming in to your room is going to first go through their firewall, whether or not you have your own router.

It worked last year with my other roommate when he used his own router, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Like I said, that's my main concern, and I'll bring it up with my friend who works for the department before I actually go out and buy anything.
