Whats up with superstition in Rage?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:43 pm

god bless this, god bless that, prayers this, prayers that...

Wasn't the asteroid supposed to hit the future Earth?
And given that non-superstition is the highest growing demographic in the western world and http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12811197 this is very incongruous and unrealistic!

Also, some facts:

This is indeed a fascinating observation and I applaud GeneralE for taking note of it.

I don't agree with you, and to discount religion in the future is stupid, and a belief in God or a higher power is a act of faith.

here I can come up with stuff too: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_Christians_are_there_worldwide

IMO, I also feel that this is not the place to discuss such matters, (politics and religion) these are very touchy subjects. I don't care one way or another if its in games, to me it adds a little bit of real ism to the game. :)

Thanks for reminding me, http://www.amazon.com/Why-We-Believe-God-Concise/dp/0984493212 people believe in a such implausible creature as god, for which no coherence exists as to its function and properties.

You can http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iMmvu9eMrg if you are too lazy to get the book.

P.S.
pro-tip: believing in demonstrably absurd baseless assertions concocted by primitive ignorant men in pre-scientific era is not an act of faith, it is an act of institutionalized childhood indoctrination.

I must not be understanding the topic at all but may be everything is god bless this/that because the asteroid hit made them fear. The excess fear, made them hold onto something supernatural that doesn't exist as a means to keep themselves sane.

Oh shut up. I'm an atheist but your pretentious attitude is disgusting. Also, just an FYI, religion is forbidden to be discussed on the forums (I don't agree with this, but those are the rules).

Best thread on these boards in a long, long time.

And is it really a surprise that religion is becoming less important in society? I mean, the catholic church does a great job by being in the papers everyday for molesting kids ;)

"Believing in demonstrably absurd baseless assertions concocted by primitive ignorant men in pre-scientific era is not an act of faith, it is an act of institutionalized childhood indoctrination" should be a bumper sticker.

But the religiously blind will come out and start quoting the bible... which is basically me picking up a Harry Potter book and start quoting lines it in proving to you that Hogwarts does exist...

What a bunch of hypocrites, you want others to respect your beliefs, but every chance you get you put them down for theirs.

OP just made a point that in the future, organized religion will become a thing of the past. It's just a fact. People are slowing getting out of their childhood, god fearing, mind in a box trance. And as generations go on and on... religion will disappear. Any fiction that is written in the future should take this into consideration, if they want to be as accurate as possible.

Mods - Keep this thread open. We need some intelligent debate sometimes ;)
