Why is Rage so Short ?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 5:10 pm

When they announced eons ago that they were developing Rage i expected a fairly long game, now ive completed it in just under 8 hours, thats with all side missions done, all races and all vehicle upgrades purchased.
Is it me or are games just getting shorter these days ?

I agree RAGE was shorter than expected.

most people on these forums will disagree that the length is not a problem.

It seems like a short game. I am halfway through and played like 5-6 hours so far maybe (did all sidequests and races in wellspring)

I don't have any problem with the length. I agree with above ,there's plenty of content ; ways to spend 20, 30 and even 40 hours in the wasteland without getting bored. Guess it just depends on your playstyle and what you choose to do and not to do. A lot of people claim to have "done everything" and finished it in times so short that I can't even imagine having done it in. . .

I don't see how it's even possible to complete everything in the game in a mere 8 hours. If you're pacing yurself in any way it should take you 6 or so to get to Wellspring.

17 hours is really not that much for an open world game...

Its a whole lot for an FPS.
PS< i put that in, not doing all of the sidequests, but scouring the areas i did go through.

If i wanted to, i could get through F3 in about 5 hours.
Or i could play like one of my builds and put in 120+ hours.

Both games, it just really dpends how in depth you want to go.
Ive seen people easily put 25 hours in on rage.

For a non-RPG, thats a decent chunk of playtime.

Rage never pretended to be anything other than an FPS. Right through the entire promo period it was there in front of everyone; Rage is an FPS, it has some open world elements, it has some RPG elements, but it's still an FPS. This was openly available information and nobody can claim that it was hidden from them.

people keep calling this game an open world game when its not really, unless you are driving around shootin bandits theres nothing really else to do for your so called "exploring" unless you have the sewers DLC ,you kids must be high as [censored] otherwise, and im not sayin thats bad or anything , im just sayin

ive played through the game 3 times in a row since i bought the game on release date

GREAT GAME but yeah it does seem a bit short even if its average 15 hours long, i think its just the end of the game that ultimately makes the game feel cut off or short

Wow! This is getting old. I want to see proof that everything was done in 8 hrs.

I spent 40 hours on rage and still have stuff to do. I just do not get these playthroughs that are so quick. If you are doing it that quick then you must be missing out on alot. Any game no matter how big can be done very quick but that's rushing through the main story. Look at skyrim, I'll get an easy 300 hours on one playthrough, some guys down at Bethesda finished it in 2 hrs. Another is fallout 3, there are people that finished that game in 8 hrs, they missed a ton of stuff, I got over a hundred and I'm still playing on that playthrough. It's what you make of the game. It's as long as you want it to be or as short. I think people just can't play a game and enjoy it anymore. It has to be torn apart from top to bottom. Rage was awesome, if you didn't like it then you don't like video games, unless the ending was the game breaker for you. But as far as gameplay and some of the scenery it was incredible. Story may have lacked for some but when did ID software become great story tellers. They do one thing and do it really really good, and that's make a great corridor FPS shooter. Also the Ai was some of the best I've seen in a while. You can't beat a wingstick either.
