BROUGHT IT, COMPLETED NOW A REVIEW?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 4:51 pm

I'm 22, and i'm not big on iD, and thats mainly, because the games i used to play Qauke etc, I was too young to understand iD's history but i get the most part and their reputation, and have so far enjoyed all their games to date.

Now about iD's reputation, I feel it's indifferant when it comes to Rage, I loved the Game, but i feel this game was rather a Demo/ show off, showing the capabilities of their new game engine, and for that reason, it didnt boost their reputation, nore deplete it.

If there ever is ever going to be a Rage, 2 i'm sure they make everything bigger, and larger in terms of map scale, and fix the problems we have previously experianced.

Okay their problems :

When i first played the game, I was dissapointed that i wiped the floor off their recommended system requirments ( PC ), and yet struggle to run about, and render texturing, after reading up about a new AMD update and a patch for the game one day after release i was over the moon.

I experiance some blue lines across the boarderlands, but other then that atleast i can play with top quiality and performance, alot of people have raged at iD for their performance and texture rendering issues on launch.

Well let me tell you somthing, for a game developing company to issue a patch one day after it's release is incredable.

When i purchased Black Ops 2010 on release the game didnt work for me until May 2011 after countless of patches and updates, the game was redeemed BROKEN litrally on release, only a small percentage of people could play it and it experiance huge menory leek.

but i waited 7 to 8 months for a poorly made game ????? so be thankful that iD have listened and notified the issues on their new game, and have resolved the problem, one day after release.

I also feel that iD didnt have enough time on this game, even tho they spent some what six years with the engine too.

The story was short, the ending didnt make any sence to me, firstly i'm not a single player person, not since the Sims one!!!!!

I've always been a multiplayer person, and never have enjoyed any story/ single player game, i find it difficult to find fun with out a friend.

Well with Rage that changed, i enjoyed playing alone, i felt it was best, even tho it does have it's multiplayer, i felt more in tune for the first time in some years on single player.

The story is short, and gets you involed in some conflict, that you don't particulary have a choice to escape from, what i disliked about the story, was that who is this Authority ? who is behind it all.. and why is everybody hating ?

Every NPC pretty much disliked the Authority and yet failed to say why that was, they would mention people went missing after questioning, and always warned of '' it's better to die then get cought by the authiroty '' scenario, however again, this doesnt really add anything to fact.

I would of perferred it, if there was some mastermind behind this organisation, I understand that the aurthority are turning mutants to weopens, but wernt they strong enough in the first place ???

Therefore that made no sence, if iD are going to make some mastermind dictating goverment, they should have some dictator behind it all.

So in all yes the story is short, incomplete, and didn't really make a whole lot of sence, it made more questions then answears, and it jumped you into hating this organisation, without purpose, other then the fact that your an Ark.

BOARDERLAND - Waste land.

Well that sub title couldn't be further from the truth, it is all most life less, i have seen some bandits roaming around with out their buggies, but it was rather insignifficant.

Placeing some rare plants around the world was a fanstastic idea, however i found most in the swamp ??? making the whole search for plants in random locations pointless, none the less i felt a sence of satisfaction when finding secrets.

The A,I

The A.I are fantastic I had to pause many times, to just stop what i was doing and say '' WOOOOOOOOOOW , DO IT AGAIN '' I love the Ghosht clan, and those ( forgot the names ) bandits that use the zip lines.

The A.I are constantly on the move, I said to myself '' it's as if they know i'm about to shoot at them ??'' It turns out they actrully do... and this is fantastic I've wasted so many arrow's because the A.I are always on the Move.

The best A.I for me are the more acrobatic NPC's, watching them free run everywhere, dodging everything I do, and then smacking me in the face, this has to be the best slap ive ever had.

I felt that, most of the time the game was a corridoor shooter and the best weopen of choice was either the bow/sniper depending on preferance, and shotgun, the shot gun does pac a punch, and the sniper/crossbow was great in particular locations.

But as i was saying, most of the game was a corridoor shooter, I felt all I could do was run in circles or backwards and occasionally fire after reload, sure it gave me a run for my life, it is exciting, but i compare this to Dead City....

And i found the fun factor for me is that Dead city, a more open out door space was far more greater in terms of fun, and activeness, and the way i engage the scenario.

So iD if your reading this, PLEASE have more locations the size of Dead city, it felt that their was enough room, to run around with, compare to somthing as clostrophobic as ghosht clan hideout.

Even in this meduim sized area a shotgun is helpfull, Dead city is incredable, the scenary, and the map layout, to the A.I comming from all directions and to the boss fights, it felt like a lot of fun it was this reason alone, I told my friends to buy Rage.

Also the same reason I enjoyed the single player imensley.

I'm not much of a RPG/ free Roaming person, I know that alot of players that like that stuff such as oblivion etc, and would of liked that in Rage abit more, but for me it was great, you couldnt go wrong on where you were going, and you always had a direction to go in.

To me that was fantastic, and i would applaud iD for doing that because lets not forget, THEY ARE A FPS GAME DELVELOPING COMPANY.

So be thank full that you do have some, open space.

BUGGIES.

Okay the veichles I can not spell this word so i will call them cars, the cars sound like lawn mowers, as also stated in a video review on the internet else where, it is true, however, it feels good to drive i'm not aware of any camera change, such as First person view, but none the less it is fun.

I love upgrading them and roaming around shooting bandits, the races i found tedias, simpley because i have a drive to win win win win, your not much if you come second, which is a down fall to this game, it expects you to win all together,

Ive tried Rage on keyboard and Xbox controller on my PC i know that the game is a Console game oringally, i found racing far more easier on controller then keyboard.

I feel the upgrading system could of been alot better, players like to '' BE ONE WITH THE CAR '' they like to tweak it look at it, play with it, and nurture it.

Rage offered you the playability and a basic upgrading element to the cars, i can understand why, one they are an FPS gaming developing company, not a racing one.

But surely it wouldnt of hurt to make the player feel more involed in his/hers car tuning ?

I would like to see my own charater get down and spin a wrench, and refill the oil, and place on the tire's myself, it be quite fun to drive of with only three wheels ??? having a choice like that to a player means more freedom and fun/creativity.

Overall tho, as i said the cars are fun, and variant, the races are tedias, but none the less satisfying.

Weopens:

I love the idea that iD has decided to give you a new weopen pretty much all the time... i think the whole of FPS gaming industry should follow suit, Imean this is what made CoD series interesting.
So yes iD thumbs up for that one.

The weopens are well balenced, and pack a punch, and they are endless fun, in terms of weopen type's and ammo types, they are usefull in enviroments also.

MECHANICS

Spider bots and turret bots, my firts run through game, I focused on the story, and skipped all the side line missions, because i felt i could gain more from the story, and i never got to use spider bots and Gun turrets, thats a shame.

I've heard great things about them, and i have seen video footage, my second play through I've stuck to the side line missions and spoken to every NPC after a main story mission, and i'm now able to deploy these new toys.

What the game lacks was a mission flow chart, in this case you would usually require a guide, but if your not much for reading or guide's then it's a bit of a hit and miss with the missions, as mentioned above i've missed alot, simple because i skipped the side missions.

MINI games,

MIni games i find difficult yet seriously fun, i enjoy the card game, and the knife game, not so much the rest, none the less very fun, when your board or feel a need to rest from a adrenaline pumping mission youve just accomplished.

The first mini game, i forget the name but it's the one where you roll the dice, that mini game the first i don't know 20 times i was alwasy winning on Rage launch, after the first patch i noticed i was always loosing.. and after a while sought no reason to carry on.

MONEY:

Money is a well balenced factor in this game, I always tend to run out of money, espesically on my first play through for the fact of skipping side missions, it is important to do the side missions as the story one's i have learnt, and money is balenced.

Infact having hardly anymoney at all encourages you to play mini games, and do races, so thumbs up iD

OVERALL:

It is getting late, 6 AM here, my spelling is awfull I appoligise, I believe i have mentioned alot of key factors, and I would like to think some reader may have learnt somthing from my personal review.

There is so much more i have not covered, but none the less i got some down here tonight, and I would like to leave this on a good note, and say.

Thank you iD for a fanastic game, youve changed my mind about single player, even tho the story was a calapse, I still had, fun i'm currently replaying the game on a differant difficulty setting, and I wish for you to carry on Rage, and make it the game it's surposed to be.

Weldone, for another fantasic game, i'm sure over time, your RPG elements and Racing will improve for a first i would give you a 08/10 in score.

Youve certainly still got the FPS factor, and know how a player likes their games, keep making something of that of Dead city, and youve got me HOOKED.

So good night all, feel free to post positive replies, I wish to remind you of forum rules.

I may/ may not reply back, but if there is anything you experiance that ihave not already couvered or felt differant towards, then post here :)

Thankyou, Darkvalo.

There's nothing much to add to your post. Pretty much covers it all.

Yes, the storyline and the ending are the weak spot of Rage but i couldn't care less as this has always been the weak spot of ID games and this was never a reason for me to buy an ID game. It was always about graphics, gameplay and atmosphere. And these are big in Rage.

And yes: more Dead City maps please! Best part of the game! Almost a complete game inside the game.

^^ this is where the gaming community/industry fails.
people will wait to play a 'broken' or 'unplayable' game because its got a 'brand name' or from a company with a popular name.
if a game doesn't work on release its 'ok, they'll patch it' - that's the mentality people have these days, and its wrong. back in the day games were released as is, patches were unheard of.

so to support companies that release sub-par products and wait for a patch to fix it is unexceptionable practice. but the people will still support these games/companies because they have a 'brand name'.
these companies or games can take a big crap, box it up and sell it to the masses and the majority will think its awesome because a big company with a big name put it out and put a nice brand name on it(people cannot think for them selves... they see a name/logo and its good no matter what).

imo, us, the gaming community shouldn't be putting up with this. myself, i'd rather wait an extra month, or a year even for a completed product(that needs no hot fixes or patches) rather than a 1/2 put together game and have to wait for hot fixes or patches to play.

/end rant about modern gaming

You pretty much said everything i would of mentioned !

espesically when you said graphics, gameplay and atmosphere, that is so true, this is why i enjoyed the game, and i would also completely agree on almost a complete game with in a game, if the entire game, was anything like Dead city, in terms of graphics, gameplay and atmosphere, it would supass, metro 2033, boarderlands one and 2 ( before it's release ) and fall out.

Year your right, but you also need to understand, that games are more complex today, and when a developer brings out a new engine, don't expect them to be PRO at it.

When a developer uses the same engine, they have pretty much maxed it's potential and you find that through out the game's francise, there are rarely any problems.

What i was so mad about with black ops is that it used an OLD engine, and you would think they were pretty good with it by now, turns out there useless.. Infinity ward, are good with their engines, but the people who made black ops and cod WaW, ( tre arch ) aren't very experianced, and resulted in broken games on relealse which no customer shoudl experiance.

As i mentioned in my review, i feel that iD had little time to work on the game, but none the less it is completed, and they said the patch should of been brought out before/on release.

one day off target is nothing to complain about.

try 7 months ( black ops ) and even now it' has problems.

I understand your view, people should expect to put the disc in and play. no hassle.

There are no problems with other then the fact that it was a console Port to the PC.

That is no biggy, i'm thankful it was brought to the Pc, i feel iD should keep to their core gamers tho, and thats the PC community, you will always get an unapriactive noob who doesnt understand the pressure of the industry no game can make everyone happy.

People say PC gaming is dying, i disagree, it has a fantasic community, and offers more then any console game can ever do, console games cost alot more then PC and offer less content, Pc gaming will always alive because there are some genre's that you can not implement on a console.

So to people reading this, Pc gaming is ALIVE, and will aways be alive, those who say it's dead are problerly the one's who rant every new game down, because their emo. :)

Rant over.

i agree that pc gaming will never die, and some games cannot be implemented onto console. now saying that i think the FPS genre of gaming is dying on pc.
I remember when the xbox was first introduced, bill gates i believe was the one to say they designed the xbox for shooters. most if not all of the first xbox's games were fps. the xbox was know for fps, and ps1-2 was known for its action adventure type games. now both mainly cater to shooters (at least it seems like shooters > other genres). I can see how designing after a console would be easier to do.

but for anyone to say pc gaming is dieing completely is on crack. look at most mmorpgs, it be impossible to put a lot of them on console.
