Too short and too linear

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:47 pm

Before I start with the bad words I have to say I loved playing the game.
Smashing the mutants with the claws was just like back in DOOM berserk mode.

But this game could have been much better.

- First of all the lack of Deathmatch mode s*cks.
- For the campaign: it is way too short.
- The second outland area looks like it had to be finished quickly. Too small, almost no side missions.
- Overall too few side missions. There are so many areas in outland which are "not used".
- There is speak about a lot of sewers in outland but there are just a few.
- You expect a big monster at capital prime but all thats thrown at you are some lame mutants with an armor and better weapon ... I really thought something evil is coming up.
- A lot of work is gone into this game but somewhat wasted. I thought there′d come something up with the major in the second city but not really... What a waste of time spent in this character.
- There is no night/day change. Kinda weird when you′re always at daylight.
- Why so linear? Why do I have to be on the resistance? Why can′t I kill everyone or join the evil side? This could have been ~10 scripted stories in one game and with that a way longer playtime and way more fun.

Well well, I know you guys at Id are not known for brilliant stories. I didn′t expect that. I love the exact control (as always) I love the balance of weapons and I love the coop part even if you can only play with two players.
But I′d love to see this one in deathmatch.

couldnt agree more...i mean WTF ?!
i didnt even use BFG rounds at all.
I was expecting something big and was saying "nahh not going to waste BFG rounds at some lame mutants...rounds are wayy to expensive to be thrown like that",and i was really like the Joker in Dark Knight, saying all the time outloud "ohh i love this job i love it i love it" and when i redirect that satellite, expecting to see Rage-Cyberdemon..."BAM".....end credits.....was looking in the screen for like 3 minutes without any reaction and stupid look like the squirrel from Ice Age...
I think that the game was started with enthusiasm and then someone said : "ohh i cant model anymore...lets have 3-4 side missions and i am too lazy to think of a final boss or extension"...
22 GB of nice looking rocks and caves....nice...i hope you wont ruin my fav game (DOOM) with scenario like that one

I didn't fire a single BFG round too for the exact same reason haha! I was thinking "damn, I wish I had fired at least one shot to see it." As for the ending - If id software is using the ending as a spring board for their DLC then the possibilities are endless. We see hundreds of Arks open up around the world with their own setting and protagonists to fight the authority. You can treat each ark as its own DLC. I'd prefer remaining the mysterious stranger from RAge and travelling to each Ark to help them setup and fight rather then always switching to a new character.

I'm amazed so many saw the ending and missed that it may have been the beginning.

My opinions to the above:

.not having a fps multyplayer is a shame, but it dosnt hurt the game at all, infact i praise Id for doing something different, what sux IS deathmatches.

.If your running and gunning all the way through then yeah it will be, all games are if you play like that. try takeing your time, immerse yourself in the game.

. all earias looked polished to me, allot of attention to detail if you cared to notice and i found it quite spacious.

.I agree there wernt enough side missions, i would have also like a freeplay after completion of the game.

.There were neough imo, and you could re enter them multiple times.

.There was no big monster battle in the book, so why put it in the game, would of made the ending a bit cheesy and lost planet-ish

.in the book rain mentions a few times how different the sun is post Apophis, how much brighter and hotter it is, this could also mean the day is lighter for longer.

.This is how the devs wanted it and it works even in the fallout games although there were allot of choices you could make you couldnt just join any faction. joining the bad guys is out of charactor for raine.

.fps mp mode with controll point and capture the flag sure, deathmatch is Bs and boreing imo.

Cheers-

i agree but the sp still felt 'short'. and the buggy is fine not knocking it, it was a nice addition to the game, but i thought the fps aspect would have been the main focus. therefor i felt the sp would have been more dominant, longer like rpg length(.. think they said that but w/e).
i like the game, but i'd rather they spent 0 time on the buggy multiplayer and added more quests/missions or
Spoiler
a decent ending..... boss fight /cough.....
maybe kept it open....

.....but very much anticipating dlc :D

There is definately room for improvment , fingers crossed their will be more added to SP and Mp with the dlc's to come.

To a degree i agree with you, it is linier but that is what Id wanted, becouse in order to tell a story the game has to be, if you wonder off and do your own thing it messes up the story, The devs of Metro 2033 explainend this in detail. I do feel a bit cheated at how few of the buildings and rooms could be enterd in hagar and wellspring aswell as subway town but again its to keep you focosed on the story i guess and who know maybe some of these will be opend in the dlc.

Something from the book that i would of loved in the game is the races, in the book these races as raine finds out are brutal, to the death and with crowds of people from all around the wasteland cheering and screaming, the track is attached to wellspring, raine described it as looking like an old footbal stadium, big lights, high walls all around, rows of seats with a box for the mayor almost gladiator like and like in romen times, some competitors don't make it out alive. I loved how the races were portrayed in the book , in game it didnt have that feel and took place in the wastes, not in a stadium.

But this game could have been much better. lets see im about 5-6 hours into it and i have too say this is one of the most boringgames i have ever played. Does it get any better? i thought i would buy it and it tied me over until Skyrim came out but im having a hard time finding anything fun about this game. I dont know why game developers would try too implement racing and shooting together, if we wanted a racing game we would go buy Grand Torismo, or Faroza, or need for speed etc.... ID stick too just shooters. The games first person graphics are nice, but the racing should have been axed and they should have made it an open world like Fallout. People dont want linear crap anymore, and wow did they ever hype this game up, and i dont see why, you fight the same mutants over and over and over again, borring. Im thinking i will trade it in for a good game like Assasins Creed, that keep givibg gamers what they want. Realy disapointing especialy after all that hype.

yes the game is realy boring, linear, and well boring. Nice graphics and thats it, should have made the world open like Fallout, and got rid of the races that i would score a 3/10, Oh and based the online play on shooting because thats what you guys do shooters not racing.
