Can you recommend me a free anti-virus? : Othor Games

Hi guys

I remember reading similar threads in the past here on the forum and I hope that you can take some time to help me find a reliable free anti-virus software.

My laptop came with a free trial of Norton but now the trial have expired and I want to try something else. I have Norton on my stationary computer too but I remember hearing talk about how Norton is kinda bottom of the barrel when it comes to anti-virus software and that some of the best anti-viruses were free.

I set up Avast! Free on my sister's PC and its real time protection is working well. She called me the other day to say it caught a Trojan after her son used it downloading music from a questionable site.

I think Avast and Microsoft Security Essentials are the 2 most popular free AVs.

Avast! and MSE are the two I'll recommend to people

Avast! has proactive technologies (stops attacks before they infect) wherease MSE is purely reactive (only cleans up infections). MSE has a lower false-positive rating than Avast!, though (unless you use Chrome

)

I use Avast! and i am really happy with it. Its proactive feature is what sold me on it.

I use the free version of Avast. I don't get viruses at all due to safe browsing habits, but it's there just in case.

Microsoft Security Essentials.

It doesnt bugger me for updates and does them silently and it's overall easier to work with

And another question, can anyone recommend me an ad blocker that is easy to operate? I use Firefox if that matters.

most ISPs provide free antivirus programs - check with your ISP first (Internet Service Provider)

I used to use AVG. I switched to Avira when it started to get bloated. Then I switched to Avast! when Avira started to annoy me. I like it very much. Next thing I'll try is MSE, but I don't know how Avast will ever annoy me when I use Silent mode.

i've been with avg for 7 years and got tired of the bs so I went with Microsoft security essentials.

However there is a lot to choose from
avast, avira, panda cloud and i thought there was one called asquared, spent 5 minutes on google and didn't find much reviews for free software come 2012. There might be reviews for 2011 free anti virus though.

Hmm. It used to be touted as one of the best. I've never had any problems with it. I'm DLing Avast! now to give it a try.

Microsoft Security Essentials suits me just fine, but I have safe browsing habits to begin with, including Adblock Plus and Web Of Trust.

MSE is what I use, and it is very effective with detecting any suspicious files or any viruses. I do think it is pretty quiet too about its running... almost too quiet... I may try avast as other people are saying it is good.
