How do I connect to an EXISTING wireless network thru window

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 5:30 am

New laptop had intel Proset wireless software.. or some crap. It was the most bizarre wireless utility I've ever seen... it INSISTS for the device ownership password of every secure network I try to connect to (IE at school.) Why do I need the device ownership password? That's [censored].

Anywho, I've deleted that crap because of its stupidity. Now I'm having trouble just connecting to the router at my apartment (wirelessly). Does windows have some utility to search for available wireless networks? Everything I've found is just for setting one up..

I'm on windows XP.

TIA.

Nothing there.

"LAN"

"New Connection Wizard"
"Network Setup Wizard."

Are the only things there.

It sounds like you deleted your wireless adapter, so you have to reinstall that first.

I'm not sure I understand.

I deleted "intel proset wireless wifi connection utility" because it svcks. Is this not a third party software? I don't have to use it right? Can't windows manage available wireless networks?

So you deleted the drivers for the wireless receiver and wonder why it's not working?

Look up what device you have and download the correct drivers. It shouldn't need any super-special software to just work. To do this either A) Hook up your laptop via ethernet cable or B) Download it somewhere else and transfer it via Flashdrive or other means.

It only shows your LAN connection, so that's what happened. You don't have to use the Intel app to manage your connections you know, there's an option to defer network management to Windows without uninstalling it.

Ok, bear with me.

So, how do I

-Have windows manage networks
-Not have intel app installed

And thirdly, where does windows manage networks? I'ts been so long since I've used XP, I'm lost.

I never restarted after deleting intel stuff. You think restarting could make windows wake up and look for networks now?
