Crohns Disease & Colitis Awareness Week

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:17 am

Dec 1-7 is Crohns disease and colitis awareness week and I'm creating this thread to basically spread awareness.

Crohns disease is a disease that attacks your stomach and intestinal track. It makes your stomach and intestines Inflammed. You can get ulcers and it can be debilitating. Colitis is the same thing but only effects the colon.

Im 17 and my name is Cody and have had crohns for a long time and many other stomach issues and I have one of the worst cases of it and other stuff. This is not as known as briast cancer and other stuff because a lot of people don't focus on these problems. So if you could, research it and spread awareness please:)

Have you heard of crohns or colitis before this?

Cheers

I had heard of Crohn's Disease, but was not aware of its effects. I was not aware of the existance of Colitis.

How debilatating are these two conditions? Are they life threatening?

Crohns itself really isnt, but what situations it causes, are very life threatening. I have 1 of a kind stomach problems, I have the worst of the worst I've seen here in Arizona and really around the U.S. I've been hospitalized 24 out of the last 30 months. My friend and I have organized a Gastrointestinal awareness walks to try to raise awareness about this. I'm only 17 and I'm trying to do anything I can to spread this. Everyone is really focused on cancer and other diseases and conditions it's basically like not many people care about stomach issues

I've heard of both of them, but would be lying through my teeth if I said I understood what it's like to live with either one of them.

I believe that my boss has Crohns Disease. According to him, it makes life a living hell, I won't argue with him on that.

Have a coworker with Crohns. She had a pretty bad episode at work when it first started flaring up. She had no idea what was going on and was in great pain.

My mate has Crohns. A lot of the time he's fine, but a flare up is absolutely horrible.

I was aware of it yes, simply because I have IBS, which has similar symptoms to colitis, though with nowhere near as much severity. As far as IBS goes, I have to avoid my 'trigger foods' (alcohol in particular), but it doesn't have a massive effect on my life, and I feel very lucky for this.

Not nearly enough people are aware of conditions like this, so I support your campaign wholeheartedly.

I'd heard of Crohns Disease but I did not know about the symptoms or severity of it. Same with colitis, and I believe that you are correct in how everyone focuses on just cancer or life threatening diseases, there are other diseases that can be just as bad or worse to live with but don't get any attention.

No I have not heard of this. The closest I have heard of was a bacteria that killed my cat, which ate his intestines and stomach. Had the doc not put him out of his misery, he would have simply starved to death....

Anyway,
You have my sympathies, Cody. I thank for bringing this condition to my knowledge.
