Sony 3D TV

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 3:00 pm

I heard about a TV Sony made that comes with two glasses made for gaming, so that splitscreen isn't a problem because you only see your screen with the glasses on. What I'm wondering is, are the glasses compatible with other TVs, and can see the game with the glasses on while the actual TV is off? I'm guessing yes to the latter, but what about the former?

I heard LG made a 3D TV that doesn't require the glasses so If you're into 3D that would be best for you.

Wow, this is the first good use for "3D" capable TVs that I've seen. You could eliminate split-screen, and just have every-other frame shown be for one player or the other, and each has polarized glasses allowing them to see alternating frames. You'd have full-screen split-screen.

1. No. Only recently a standard for 3D glasses was agreed upon, and hasn't yet been implemented (AFAIK). Glasses for one TV aren't necessarily compatible with other TVs (and if it is a TV by a different manufacturer, it's almost guaranteed to not work)

2.Of course you can't see the game with the TV off. If you could what would be the point in selling the TV, they'd just sell the glasses

Heard about that set. Cool technology, but still not worth the cost, considering.

I'm asking, are the glasses that come with the TV able to be used on other TVs? You know, strictly for the splitscreen-elimination factor?

I also want the glasses so I can play the game while someone else is watching the TV.

No. They only work for that TV model.

They can watch you play the game, though it may look fuzzy (uncertain how the TV will look without glasses)

I mean, with the glasses, I could play my consoles while they watch on the actual TV.

I could say yes, but that would just lead to confusion, so instead I will say:

"That is correct"

Forget about watch two friends go head to head. It's the two images mushed together.

The TV is pretty cool, but each player can switch between feeds while playing, taking screen-looking to a whole new level. You don't see any of the other player's screen while on your feed though.

It's also worth noting using the split-screen-full-screen thing disables 3D, since it uses the same technology to give each player different images. I've not seen how good the 3D looks on it though.

The weird thing is that the split-screen tech could technically be done on any 3DTV, issue is software. :P
