Well...damn. I was installing my SSD, backed up my C drive to a partition on my E drive made specifically for my C drive...and it somehow overwrote the wrong partition. So I have successfully lost all my music, pictures and videos.

I'm not even sure how it happened. I'm positive I made sure to select only the new partition. Siiiiiigh. Luckily, all the music I really listen to is on my Sansa Fuze, so I can easily transfer it off of there, but I had movies and whatnot on there. Also, I'm an "Upload pictures to Facebook" kind of person, so they're all on there, but it's still just, ugh.

Oh well, lesson learned. Don't do something like that for the first time at 4am!

Ugh, that svcks.

That's why I am extremely careful when messing with partitions. I always check each setting 2 or 3 times before confirming anything.

Aight folks, decided to build a new PC. I'm planning on making it in the next few months so my first question is: Is it better to buy during "Christmas Sales" or wait till January for the pricedrops?

I'm looking to spend around $1,000 on hardware; OS not included. My starting point is this http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/build-a-pc,2969.html. What are your thoughts on this build?

Mobo:
MSI P67A-G43; LGA 1155, Intel P67 chipset
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K; 3.3 GHz (3.7 GHz Turbo), Quad-Core, 6 MB L3 Cache
CPU Cooler: Xigmatek Loki SD963
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) 240-Pin DDR3-1333; Dual-Channel Desktop Memory Kit
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314)
GPUs: 2 x Gigabyte Radeon HD 6850; 1 GB GDDR5
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 750 GB; 750 GB, 7200 RPM, 32 MB Cache SATA 3Gb/s
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"
Case: Xclio Nighthawk
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650 W; ATX12V, EPS12V, 80 PLUS-Certified

Some notes:
1. I last built a PC in 2006, a lot has changed since then. This looks like a decent build, but I might as well be a total noob with all this new generation hardware.
2. I have an old Zalman CPU cooler; can I transfer that to this new computer?
3. I'd prefer a Cooler Master Centurion case, but does it really matter?
4. Are there any advantages to a 'bigger name'/more expensive Mobo (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131771)?
5. I assume Win7 is the way to go, but I have no idea. I'd still be using X P if I had a choice.

So what are y'all overall thoughts? I'm looking to get a computer that will comfortably run Skyrim, Counter-Strike:GO, TOR, Deus Ex: HR, and Thief: 4. Basically this year's generation of games. I could probably squeeze my budget a little north of $1,000 but I'd prefer, obviously, to stick close to it.

Edit: Fixed a few things...
Question: How important is the size of the HDD cache?
Is there any reason not to get Win7 Home Premium 64?

A troubleshooting question if you don't mind: I have a many years old LCD screen, about a month or so ago it started displaying a white line on top of the screen after switching it on, but it disapperead well before the computer had booted. Sometime later it started showing two white lines. Today it showed two white lines and the screen flickered even after desktop had loaded. Is it a sign that screen is about to break?

Hey quick question: I've recently bought a barebones kit off of tiger direct http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1557175&CatId=332, as well as an ASUS gtx 550 ti http://www.amazon.com/PCI-Express-ENGTX550-TI-DC-1GD5/dp/B004RJJN9Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323385921&sr=8-1, and I was wondering if the power supply would be sufficient to power the whole rig. Here are the specs off the side of the psu: http://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j364/micmash/photo.jpg So let me know if an upgrade is in order!
