Most Brutally Violent Film(s) You've Ever Viewed.

I recently viewed the film Munich, a film based upon Israel's retaliation to the 1972 Munich Olympic massacre directed by Steven Spielberg, and was astounded by the grittiness of the violence. People jerked and reacted to bullets impacting them, rounds tore up the surronding environment, and blood permeated walls. I was floored by it. I have viewed many movies that have "violence", few of which are ever on the same level as Munich. Do not confuse Munich's violence with something such as Shoot Em' Up, The Expendables, or any number of 80's action movies that have a high body count. The way the film is shot is intense and even unnerving during certain portions of the film.

I can only think of two other movies that are on the same level as Munich, one of which is the instant war classic also directed by Spielberg called "Saving Private Ryan", and a lesser known but also exceptional film called "Children of Men." All three of these films don't throw in gore or violence for the sake of it (well, except for the part in SPR when the soldier with the sticky bomb detonates, I personally thought that was a little unnecessary), they all do it to show the harshness of violent acts.

So, what are some films that floored you with the brutality of its violent content, and do you think films such as Munich, Saving Private Ryan, and Children of Men are just as violent as R movies with ultra high body counts (think Stallone and Schwarzenegger), or do you share my opionion, which is that they are on a totally different level from 80's action flicks. I look forward to your responses.

[Insert any Tarantino movie here]

The fight scene against the Crazy 88 in Kill Bill Volume 1 was incredibly violent, it's by far my favourite fight scene from any movie I've ever seen.

Without including anything in the horror genre (I like your saving private ryan pick) the first thing that came to mind was The Passion Of The Christ.

I wouldn't really consider that movie violent in the brutal sense. Reservoir Dogs would be a more suitable candidate for the kind of brutal realistic violence i'm detailing. Kill Bill was very cartoonish (it was awesome because of it), but brutal I don't really think so (except for the brief anime scene, that was pretty dang brutal.)
