Forum Grammer & punctuation?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:28 pm

Pretty much like smithing or tying your shoelaces, learning to write well involves practice. I'm sorry OP doesn't feel any need to better herself or himself, but making an attempt at writing better each time you post, at trying to make sure your point is clear and understandable, means using the writing rules that have been found to work. Is a lot of it silly? Hell yeah. But, it's also transparent, something grammar plagued entries are not.

I don't think this thread belongs in this forum.

Weird I thought it was a General Discussion forum....

I dont normally point out mistakes, but when someone makes a post that calls someone else stupid and I think it's uncalled for then I might be tempted to show that person just how weak they are themselves. Not saying this about OP, but just saying.

Wow I wish I had whatever job you currently have if grammar is extremely lenient in your workplace.

Ever considered, that perhaps some arent native speakers? Some of you, are bloody arrogant to be honest. Perhaps this thread should've been about, why on earth people are so narrowminded, to care about spelling on a international forum ?

I'm not a native speaker. I'm just amazed by all the bad english speakers/writers. I sometimes fail my grammar when writing, but at least I try.
It seems like some people just don't want to write properly.

Why do so many people care about punctuation and grammer for forum post?? These aren't essays... they are supposed to be free flowing conversations. But if you have a post that isn't pretty much edited by your college english professor people always troll the heck out of you. This coming from people that use twitter and text where its basicially pigeon english?? I just don't get it.

You my friend are talking about Forum Nazis...

Honestly the issue is not that this is an international forum, most of the non native English speak with a "How dO GraMmer?!?!!11." style anyway. I mean seriously I don't believe that you need to speak English, but if you are coming to a mostly english native forum you would think that you would have an basic enough understanding to tell what I am saying even when I make run on sentences like, this one with the comma in the wrong Spot. and no need for the capitalization or lack thereof on some of the words. alsowhydoesitmatteryouobviouslygetwhatpeoplemeanbecauseyoualwayscorrectwhattheysay.(thatisDIRECTEDAT for um nazisss)

As long as it's comprehensible, I don't really care. Alot of people on these forums are from anywhere BUT english speaking countries, myself included.

ONE thing though. Not so much on these forums, but the internet in general... THEN and THAN!! Oh my god those words get abused so badly, it makes me wan't to cry...

Some people do not necessarily find Twitter or text abbreviations acceptable, either. And these are supposed to be free-form conversations in English. Some people find it offensive or confusing when a post is beyond all saving. If I can't understand the point you are trying to make because of incorrect English, it makes the forum less effective.

Plus, sometimes I put it in there just so maybe I can be the person to help someone understand the difference between 'there', 'their', and 'they're'. I know it's unlikely if they've come this far, but it can be pointed out with kind intentions of helping someone improve their English. It's not all "you forgot an apostrophe, you must be an idiot".
