Just tossing ideas. I be I will be boo on this idea. But I bet it will work well. One thing I notice on some Games like lotro MMO or some frist person shooters like Battlefeild are play 4 free. But do the same thing with Descent 4. You can buy the game for single player But for multiplayer to help gamesas you can play for free or Buy upgrades and level up. Like new weapons and missles, Faster engines, Heavy armoured ships to light fast ships, Enter new maps. What this will do is help gamesas keep building onto descent game over time.

Then they can use the Funds to Make Better Descent game.
