It seems some creeps were arrested , but not before infecting millions of computers with some dns redirecting computers to their criminal activities.

So the FBI have taken charge as they arrested the criminals , however in July your internet will cease to be if you have been infected.

It's only a couple of clicks to check and see if your computer is infected.

Please help me pass the word.
Don't take my word for this. Use your favorite search engine to search for dns changer malware.

This is pretty old news, isn't it?

Also, your internet won't cease to be if you're infected. It's just you won't be able to resolve domain names, but seeing as how you were resolving domain names to bad websites beforehand anyway, it's no real loss.

Pretty much the only people still infected are those without any security software, anyway, as everything has had their definitions updated to include DNSChanger's signature a long time ago.

Edit: I thought this was pretty old news... trojan horse from 2005, DNSChanger variant started appearing in 2007

Not technically old news, as the FBI set up a safety net (their own servers) when they stopped the criminals. If you were infected and your DNS information was changed to criminal's servers (now FBI's servers), your Internet will most likely fail in July when the FBI removes their servers.

Basically you have until July to clean your computers. I believe its only an estimated 360,000 computer still infected worldwide.

Talk about the FBI going about this all wrong, then. It'd be simple to redirect the infected people to an FBI-controlled page explaining the situation and how to fix it (along with displaying ISP information easily obtainable by using the given IP address and seeing whose pool it belongs to) so they can fix their DNS entries, but instead they're just going to pull the plug...

I believe they wanted to be invisible, but it the end it ended up costing them 87,000 to run the servers for 8 months . The servers were originally supposed to be removed in March.

Silly, silly government. Going about things in a convoluted manner instead of choosing the obvious solution that would allow you to take the servers offline much faster with very little to no impact on anyones browsing. :shakehead:
