It's Time for a Tale of Misery and Triumph

Ahem....(clears throat) :read:

A long time ago there was a yound lad named Miller who never got too experience all the great games that the PS2 had too offer. He's cruel older brother didn't buy the likes of Kingdom Hearts or any one of the 8 million Final Fantasy games. Even when young Miller was able to play his older brother's PS2 it was only for short amounts of time.

Now it's been some time since these dark days and the boy has grown older and finally has a consistnet income of his own. With plnety of cash he plans on adventuring the many worlds he never got to expereince when he was younger. The only problem is, with so many amazing games to be played he can't possibly hope to know all of the.

.........Okay, so in summary I'm finally going to get around to buying a PS2 to play all those great games I missed and I need all of you to help me in making a list. Don't worry about genre or whether or not I've heard of it, if you think it's worth playing than list it.

Or buy a new PS3. Mine can play PS1, 2, and 3 games.

I suggest of course Kingdom Hearts as I loved that game..

Resident Evil 2 & 3 for the PS1 (can be played on any 3 systems of course)

Only other PS2 game's I can recall being good that I played were Champion's of Norath (something like that...)

Shadow of the Colossus
Okami
Dragon Quest 8
Those, and also:

- Shin Megami Tensei - Persona 3 (mind, this is an Atlus game and therefore unforgivingly difficult)
- Shin Megami Tensei - Persona 4
- Final Fantasy XII
- Final Fantasy X if you can stomach the main character
- Shadow Hearts if you like your jRPGs somewhat more horror-oriented
- Suikoden III and V, but not IV
- Disgaea I and II if you like tactics and GRINDAN

I've also heard good things about the Fatal Frame/Project Zero series and of the Xenosaga games.

Great suggestions here. Shadow Hearts is a gem of a series that is often overlooked. Might I also suggest Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 if you want a bit more of a "hardcoe" experience than Persona (Don't get me wrong, Persona is equally amazing in its own way).

If you like beat 'em ups, God Hand is a must own, as well as Devil May Cry 1 & 3. There is no 2, so don't ask.

Stealth-wise, I can recommend Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Likewise, if you like dating sim/JRPG hybrids (Like Persona, but more focus on the dating sim element) or want to give them a try, Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love is great, if a little lot on the corny side.

Nocturne and DDS are good games, but nowhere near the awesomeness of Persona 3 and 4 in my opinion. And of all of those, P3 is definitely the hardest. Oh, Natural Dancer and Sleeping Table, how I did loathe thee!

I find Nocturne the hardest out of them all, but Persona 3 falls into second hardest, easily. P3's problems can be solved mainly by leveling, and getting money is easy, whereas Nocturne starves you of money and if you can't beat a boss, grinding probably won't help. That and Nocturne's random encounters are sadistic beyond comprehension. Really, Atlus? Three Legions in one battle + Ambushed?! MamudoonMamudoonMamudoonGameOver. And even if that doesn't kill me, they have Tetrakarn. For God's sake.

Sleep with one eye open.

Nah, I jest, they're fairly good games. Their main draw, to me, is the seemless blend of action, platforming and puzzle solving. The combat system itself leaves a lot to be desired, imo, but I've been spoiled by Ninja Gaiden and DMC.

Dunno if you're into it but there was a point and click game on PS2 called Glass Rose which I LOVED. Had a really great storyline and was really interesting...

You should get a ps3 instead. I think it's backwards compatible.

anyway here's what I recommend.
Baldur's gate Dark alliance 1 & 2.
Demon stone.
Soulcalibur 2 & 3.

I'm in this same boat. I recently started playing games on PS2 and I didn't know many games either. I'm playing Kingdom Hearts right now. I'll be getting some of the games mentioned as well.

Thanks Miller for aquiring this list. :)

We Love Katamari.

Easily in my top ten. I dare you to play the bear cow racing level without it making you happy. Or slightly frustrated if you're not very good at it:

The entire original Ratchet and Clank trilogy (I don't count Deadlocked amongst the original RaC's, as the way the game played out was extremely different from it's predecessors )

Sly Cooper trilogy of course, along with the Jak series (even the racing one).

The Hobbit was a very great game, as well as Fellowship of the Ring. The other Lord of the Rings games are fun as well, but they are pretty much "Beat-em-Ups" with a few extra features.

As someone said, the entire Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance series.

Oh god I nearly forgot. The first three Harry Potter games. Fantastic gameplay, and much to do. They feel like Zelda placed in the Harry Potter universe.
