If you don't have a video card yet, you'd preferably choose an
nVidia card (GeForce) over an
AMD card (Radeon) if you want to have the highest chance of RAGE performing at it's best.
Not because of the brand somehow being superior, but because the AMD drivers are a cluttered mess when it comes to exactly this game, so for some AMD users it can be very difficult to get it working properly.
As for mods, the game editor is not out yet. It's promised to come out some time later, but no date has been specified at this point.
A few things you may have to get used to when it comes to RAGE:
- Texture popins. Make sure to put the game setting for Texture Cache Size to 'Large' to reduce texture popins, or even use custom settings if your video card will have enough VRAM for it.
- Certain textures are of poor quality due to the aggressive compression the developers had to use in some cases to keep the game size down.
- Coloured shadows. Most caves/interiors have their own settings for color grading, and they seem to be a little out of hand at times. Don't worry if you see them, your video card is not overheating/producing artifacts.
- Game size on the harddrive is pretty big, approximately 21 GB. Can be an issue for some people.
- Interface menus seem to have some sort of mouse smoothing enabled. Can be annoying to some people.
- Mandatory Steam registration needed, which means the game can not be resold/traded or returned.
This is why it's important to make sure it works on your system!By the way, there is also a free demo for RAGE on Xbox Live / PSN. I'd recommend you check it out too to help you decide what would be the best platform to get the game for.
