Should I get Rage? Never played it before..

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 11:10 am

..except for the demo earlier today. I enjoyed it pretty well. I liked the graphics, typical Beth right there. And my only complaint was there wasn't a 3rd person view. Unless that's just cause it was a demo?

Before I go spend the money I have some questions maybe some of you can fill me in on...

1. Length of the game? If I finish it in 24 hours I will be ticked off.
2. Action RPG? Seemed like a real soft one to me.
3. Replay value?

1. The reason why there was no 3rd person view is because this isn't a Bethesda game. It is actually developed by the great id Software, and is merely being published by Bethesda. Long story short, outside of vehicles there will be no 3rd person gameplay in Rage.
2. I personally haven't gotten my mitts on the game just yet, but reviews and player accounts seem to indicate that the campaign is around 20-25 hours long. Doing the math on Let's Plays also point to this.
3. Not sure how to answer, seeing as it isn't a question. But the actual RPG elements seem to be fairly light, so it is more of a shooter where you can build things and grab loot.
4. Not sure

Sorry, but my answers may or may not be entirely reliable, seeing as I am about to get Rage in the coming days. But I hope this helps, because the Rage forums are dead, so it may be a day or two until you get another answer. But I would maybe watch some videos on it and play through the demo a few more times.

On my last playthrough of the demo, before I went to go into the well I had $1000. It is a long process, but you can find a Vault Tec Bobblehead in the mayor's office, which sells for $150 dollars if memory serves right. After that, find all the cards scattered around town (they are glowing red tins, which are commonly found on the ground) and head to the Second Chance Tavern. In the back corner of the room you can play this entertaining card game that is quite easy, being mostly skill based. The mutant minigame on the street is also great for making some money. So after that, you can head to the shop and buy any supplies you may need, including an Authority Assault Rifle (the one featured in the trailers) and some interesting ammo types. There is even a recipe to make Fat Mommas, which are twice as powerful as Fat Boys.

Hoped I could help. :)

3. Replay value?

1) Its anywhere from 12-24 hours of gaming. It you played it continuously you'd definitely finish in 24 hours.
2) Its more of a standard corridor shooter.
3) Replay value just depends on what you like.

With the exception of all the driving at heart Rage is really no different from any other single player id game like Doom or Quake. The story and all the RPG elements are about as superficial as it gets and some have described it as more of a painting you move through then anything else. But one where you run and drive down corridors and canyons shooting and blowing up everything in sight.

Works for me.

Thanks for the first couple replies. I think I'll pass on this game. Not enough there to keep me entertained for that pricetag.

It's like 25 dollars on amazon which IMO is a complete steal. This game is worth the 59.99 price tag any day of the week. Yes, id software made the game which IMO again is the best developer of all time. They created the FPS genre and this game does not dissapoint. To answer your questions:

1. I'm about 17 hours in so far and I haven't even hit disc 2 yet, so I'd assume it lasts like others have said around 25-30 hours if you do everything.
2. At the heart of the game, it is a FPS. But it has great racing elements and pretty cool RPG elements where you can create weapons and bots to help you.
3. I think once you finished the game it would be fun to try it on nightmare mode. I hear it's almost impossible.

One thing people aren't mentioning is the graphics. The graphics in RAGE are the best around, thanks to John Carmack. This game runs at a silky smooth 60FPS and looks amazing the entire time. You will not find a better looking game this generation that runs this well, guaranteed.

Buy the damn game. You will be glad you did.

Nightmare is ridiculously easy. I played half the game without getting killed.

For $25 on Amazon, the game is VERY worth it, gamplay hours wise and everything together. In fact, yeah, $25 seemst too cheap.

Because you played it on PC
Too bad the game wasn't made harder in PC...

They should have left the PC part completely out. Then we'd all be further ahead. I would not have bought it and you lot would be happy with your shiny toy, without having to put up with my [censored]ing.
