what can I say? I don't read much other fantasy-magic-magely novels, TES magic is all I can really draw upon with genuine understanding.

besides, most of the "Magic" that real cultures practice was pretty subtle and relied on secret pains and gains...probably because there's no such thing as magic and so people needed to insist that the magic was "invisible" so the war wouldn't be nearly as exciting

although I do know a fair amount of WWII history and am certain that if magic was used the Nazis would obviously utilize their obsession with occultism.

The first problem would definitely be that if everyone had access to magic there would never have been any hope of forming centralized nation states and dictatorships. If everyone potentially had the power to bring an entire nation on its knees, humans would probably be stuck in medieval stasis with little interest in proceeding as a species.

We actually do have a fictional account of magic being in the same world where WW II happened..

well, I think McArthur would have eventually Fosrodahed from the back of a big stompy robot powered by the souls of the vanquished.
