TTimo resigned :(

What does this mean for future id software, quakelive, source code and linux porting ?

That means Linux versions are in the water completely ?

But Carmack did confirmed it would be unlikely that one guy would have been able to port Rage onto linux so if they decide to port they would have to hire a few more guys anyways.

Anyways ... wish him luck.

Last thing he did at ID proudly the Doom 3 Source code.

The question is, was he a part of the layoffs, or he genuinely "resigned" - the difference is, layoff is obviously a management decision, resignation is personal.

I think the layoffs were the stampers we talked about, the mass production workforce that is not needed anymore since Rage is complete.

Old news.

Linux and source releases happened before he joined id, there's no reason whatsoever why they can't continue to happen after he's left. TTimo may have had a reputation in the Linux community, but that doesn't mean he had sole repsonsibility for any of that stuff - Carmack was actually the prime motivator behind it all (and Romero shared his "hacker ethic" principles during his time at the company). Just like people said that id joining Zenimax would kill off source releases - well, we've had RTCW, Doom 3 and a host of mobile stuff released since to prove that wrong, havent'we? Strikes me that there's a certain negativity and under-siege mentaility that's contributing to this, nothing to do with reality at all.

From his blog, in particular the comment (paraphrasing here) "anyone who knows me won't be surprised" it seems this has been brewing for some time, and current events - assuming they have any significance to anything at all - shouldn't be seen as being significant here.

No, he is well out of that job. id is not at all what it was. He was obviously sick of working there.

Good luck man.
