Will we have Recoil in Brink ?

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 6:50 pm

I pre-ordered Brink and I'm in Europe, so we still have to wait 2 days to play this game. I loved the game from the gamefootage and US users' streams, the only thing that bugs me is that there is no recoil in the game. You can just pull the trigger for 5 seconds and still shoot accurately, thus killing your opponent. Recoil adds just a little bit of realism to the game and also I believe it seperated the good player and the bad player. The level of aiming skill really shows it self when there is recoil. So, eventhough I love the game and will play it, it seems as though I might get bored because every single person can kill you by just holding mouse botton 1. Even if there is no recoil, at least make the shots far less accurate if you hold down mouse button 1... Everytime I see a trigger being pulled for 5 seconds, the enemy dies. Don't let the trigger maniacs kill their enemies...

What do you guys think, should they implement recoil in the game or not?

There is recoil its just not as crazy as in other well known shooters that shall not be named on these forums ;) and in a lot of game play videos the guns have attachments to lower recoil i think. Either way I can see this thread becoming flame bait as the topic has been brought up many times before D:

The revolvers recoil is quite realistic. Unlike another games "snake" gun.

you watch game footage and have not noticed that the reticle gets larger the longer you hold down fire? theres your 'shots less accurate if you hold down mouse button 1'

There's bloom for hipfire and recoil if you ADS. What you might be confused about is the lack of recoil on SMGs. Richard Ham said that SMGs had next to no recoil because they are only effective close-range anyways and that's where they were being used.

well bloom affects nothing at all. because I've seen that holding MB1 kills enemies (who are far far away) effectively. which svcks big time

This. I'm running around with the revolver and its not quite massive recoil surprised me at first but it makes the gun feel big and bad.

Pretty sure the iron sights also have built in inaccuracy as you fire more and that there is damage drop off past a certain distance with the guns.

Mainly depends on the gun and attachments used. Rifles have a ton of recoil.

The "skill" in Brink is in fighting your enemy, not your weapon.

Agreed. Attach a scope on a rifle and you'll see there's some significant recoil.

SD got the level of recoil for these map sizes spot on.

Each gun has it's own advantages and disadvantages with regards to that. Some guns don't recoil in a straight line either, sometimes they'll bounce a bit to the left or right whilst the nose goes up meaning you have to manually readjust..

I turn off auto-aim as that's actually off-putting for me. Aiming accurately is more of a challenge than some other famous FPS games. I think the difference between skilled players and the not-so-skilled will tell, but that's where the team-work and objective-based gameplay comes into making Brink original and fun for all.

there is definitely recoil, add that with the bullet spread and you should have the recoil you were looking for. This is not point and click laserwhip, there is certain times where you have to be delicate with the trigger.

edit: could not vote because - recoil is good as is. was not an option

Perhaps you should wait until you get the game before talking about recoil.
There's plenty of recoil in this game.

there is to a certain degree or atleast there seems to be on the single shot AR. put rapid fire on it with an ACOG and fire as fast as you can on an enemy. it seems to miss no matter what, if you try to put more than 2 bullets into them too quick.

and yes im not missing...

The Assault Rifles definitely have a good amount of recoil. Enough that I'm going for the handgrip attachment ASAP.
