Yeah, so erhm.. I'm planning to get Rage!

Trying to scrap some money toghetter so I can buy Rage. I heard a lot of good things about it and how great it is. But why is it so great? What makes this such a good game?

Of course I do have own ideas off from what I've seen and stuff but I wanted someone who have actually played the game to tell me about theyre experiences. So here I am

What positive experiences have you had with RAGE and what do you think makes this a great game?

Edit: Getting it for the Xbox 360

Oh sweet. That means you can by Dark Souls instead. I doubt you are going to get a lot of positive feedback on this game. Most the console fans don't bother with the Rage forums and it is just us bitter PC owners left lingering the forums awaiting news on patches and helping each other to get this wreck to work. Don't get me wrong, it is a fun game. But it has it's many problems.

I loved the game.

Good: the enemy AI is awesome; example you may have two or three bandits coming at you down a hallway one runs up the wall the other rolls at you and the third is throwing a knife and the enemy never approaches the same way twice. also there are many weapons and ammo types leaving how you want to kill them entirely up to you. also vehicle combat is fun but not necessary so you don't really have to do it if you don't want to. only two races are needed to complete the campaign.

Bad: no complaints here.

I have this for the PS3 but I am sure that everything is the same. except that you will be able to tell everyone playing Dark Souls how much better Rage is while you are playing. I am jealous of your cross game chat.

It's not a great game. It's a decent game, with fun shooting, gorgeous art and good audio, but it's sorely lacking in content. It's a love it or hate it game.

Also really enjoyed the game, also on PS3. Got it on launch day 10/4 and still playing it, in MP, getting trophy's, etc. And will play single player campaign over.

Single player campaign was just over 32 hours for me. Main mission, side quests, racing, sewer missions, etc.
Tons of hours playing 'Road Rage' which is the online MP car combat & 'Wasteland Legends' which is online or splitscreen co-op.

To avoid disappointment, don't go in with preconceived notions that RAGE will be just like 'Fallout' or 'Borderlands' just because it's a post-apocalyptic scenario... it's different and unique. I really recommend RAGE!

I agree with this, most people that say its a great game; 1) know nothing about how a game should be content wise 2) do not realize that when a dev company works on a game for as long as Id did with this game, and they dropped the ball, its not a good game.

It is, as asgard said, a Decent game. I have it for the 360 and here's my honest opinion: The game starts out really good, it has a really good realistic introduction into the wasteland. The game then mellows out and if you like to explore alot of area in a campaign, this is not the game for you. 75% of the map is closed off by invisible walls and the game has you set on a very narrow path. Even the different clan bases are small and not designed very well. To call the map a "wasteland" , is one of the areas where Id screwed up because if anyone has watched a apocalypse movie or played the fallout series, a wasteland refers to a huge expanse of well, wasteland to explore. but in Rage, exploring is not what you will be doing and like i said before, the path you travel on is narrow. The graphics are good and realistic which i like alot but at some points the textures/shading take time to load which can be a trip when your moving through places quickly. The car battles in the campaign become very boring as it is the same clan cars, in the same spots, every time you move between towns.

The cars come from no-where and you cannot find where they come from. Another complaint with the game is that there is little character development and content with each clan, you merely just wipe out each clan instead of interacting or learning about them. The resistance group, which is the biggest climix to the storyline, just uses you as a job boy and you do not learn anything about any of the characters. And finally, the ending was the most disappointing ending out of any video game i have played, just read 90% of the threads on this forum about how bad the ending svcked. Overall, its a decent game but it's not worth $60 as I, and most people, can beat it in 20-30 hours even with doing all the side jobs.

I've had it for the PS3 since launch day and love it! (Other PS3 players, add me if you'd like: devilmosh )

Agreed that it's best to understand this is a unique game, not another Fallout or Borderlands. It works like the old Doom/Quake corrider games, but offers the option of side quests and racing at your leisure (it's how they justify being open, though it's not as open as others like). Some complain that it's too short, but only if you rush through it. If you take time to enjoy everything it has to offer, it will soak up a lot of time. Even 20-30 hours, to me, is a ton of content for the money. That's the price of three movies which would give you about six hours.

For me, it's like Mad Max with all the driving and shooting. Multiplayer has some co-op missions and lots of Twisted Metal style combative arcade racing. Several are upset that it doesn't have death match (they have it as a racing mode) but honestly, I have Crysis 2, Call of Duty, and all those others games that offer this. Having it here would only be more of the same but with different maps. I'm happy they gave us something different. The vehicle multiplayer is fun!

Other movie comparisons are that the town of Wellspring has a Firefly feel, and Subwaytown is similar to an underground Blade Runner. There are also some steampunk elements.

The story is nothing groundbreaking but one doesn't need much to have a thrilling post-apocalyptic adventure (again, like Mad Max). I found the characters to be engaging, though, and it's easy to get into it with no desire to leave.

Well dude you havent said what other games you like so...

Big list incoming!

PROS:It's a great cinematic experience. The visuals are awesome. The gameplay is old school and awesome like Quake. The racing is adrenaline fueled and fast paced. The engineering and inventory gets cluttered, but it's a pretty decent implementation, and you can build some beat stuff. The enemies have great animations and do some surprising things (smart ai). The art and design is probably the best feature, it's fantastic. Also, the mini games are a decent time killer.
CONS:
Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive. It gets old going through the same levels. Technical issues could be improved, although there's not much texture pop on 360. Multiplayer is lackluster, even coop with a buddy is easy and not much fun.

My objective advice...try renting the game first for a few days before buying it and make up your own mind about wether its worth a purchase.

Wait until more DLC emerges. While I could speculate that maybe a month more could be necessary, my point is that DLC should not be far off. Rather than raise an eyebrow at the vanilla edition, just exert enough patience and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

Everyone who got the game approves of the shooter elements to greater or lesser extents (id delivered on that end pretty thoroughly) but were also a little shocked that a greater presence of open world features and RPG elements were lacking, not to mention there's no end boss. My opinion here resulted after surveying the forum and aside from the impatient trolls, is at least verifiable as to the forum. A couple of things were done really well, even though a number of the FPS devotees saw the opposition as a bit easy even on Nightmare.

There's room to move for id to not only make this a game with internal consistency but ageless. If you can buy, you won't see a reason to sell once DLC is released (looks to be the standing probability) but as Roland DT Fan said, you're better off renting first; for taste.

I really have to echo what MaxAmmo said here. DO NOT go into Rage with any preconceived notions as to what Rage is other than a first person shooter from id Software. It's clear from reading the forums here that way WAY too many people thought it was going to be something else. Which is a real shame, because taken for what it really is, rather than what people projected onto it beforehand, it's a pretty damn fun game.

Anyone reading this thread still looking to be hyped, don't believe the un-hype.
I'm not saying, to blindly believe the hype.

Go and check out gameplay videos, talk to people that you actually know about the game- as you'll be able to judge if the games they like are in line with your likes= their opinion actually mattering. You can also go for the option of renting the game and seeing if you want to buy it.

what are other reasons you shouldnt fall for the un-hype? There are posters on this forum who have been putting out negative posts before this game even dropped, and continue to do so.
Dont believe the hype, dont believe the un-hype and above all else, have fun.- it's a game
