STEAM won't automatically connect....

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 4:55 am

I know this isn't the STEAM community/forums but I was hoping someone knows. Whenever my computer boots it's supposed to automatically connect to STEAM. But it doesn't. I get an an error saying it won't connect and no matter how many times I click on, "Retry Connection" it won't connect.

I have to then either close it out and reopen it for it to connect or go into the Task Manager and kill the process.

Sometimes it'll say it won't connect and then when I close it and reopen it, it will give me another error saying, "You May Only Run One Instance of Steam at a Time" and then I have to go into the processes and find it in the process tree and kill it.

Why is this? Anyone know how to fix it?

Are you on wireless?

Anyway, the simplest solution would be to just https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5344-QWBN-3580. Then it won't try to connect until you launch it.

It is a wireless router but a wired connection to my desktop.

I guess that would be the best thing, to just disable the auto start. Thanks Defron, appreciate it.

I had issues with my Firewall not allowing Steam to connect. Apparently at some stage I'd ticked a box not allowing it access to the internet....or some such thing.

Maybe check that?

Yeah I'm guessing Firewall too. Try disabling your firewall or uninstalling it, and see if Steam connects after rebooting.
