Please tell me I'm not the only one!

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 11:15 pm

I can't be the only person that completed the game weeks ago, only had 2 save files (the auto-save and another save), downloaded the DLC, only to find out that I can't fast-travel from the Hoover Dam to the location of Dead Money, I'm not in combat or anything, I should be able to travel! So now, I have to start an entirely new game to play the dlc? I put 61 hrs in this game, I don't want to do that! If my memory is correct, in Fallout 3 you could still fast travel to anchorage, or the pitt, even though you began the final quest, am I right? I don't recall anywhere saying "you better not complete the game if you want to play the dlc!" Anyone know if there are plans to allow you to fast travel? Come on, I know I'm not the only one with this problem!

You don't remember the dialogue box that popped up telling you that you can't turn back after accepting the quest? It was also in Fallout 3, and you could not leave for DLC in Fallout 3 after accepting the final quest either. That's why they're sure to ask you if you're aware that there is no going back after that point.

You only have yourself to blame for not reading the pop-up before the final quest and then overwriting your main save inside.
But hey, the game is meant to be played several times, as in replayability, so go nuts, join Legion and do the DLC. ;)

I saw the dialogue box, I just thought that meant there was no going back as far as the main story line was concerned, believe me, had I known that it applied to the DLC as well I would've had a save at that point. Oh well, shouldn't take too long to burn through the main missions again, it's not like I didn't enjoy playing them and I can do it differently I suppose.

I ended up saving a character before Hoover, finishing the game, and then starting another character. Since this game was so bugged I had over 150 (delete old, etc) save files. My first character (level 30 waits at the 38 for DLC) while I continue with the new guy (level 9). Kinda overwhelmed to do the DLC with the new guy, but I want someone with a clean rep to go through the whole game before Hoover since appears there will not be an everlasting playable option (I have 100 saves just for DM). Sorry to hear that, but I am in the same boat in a way. Looking forward to the second trip!

If he's not going to read that little bit of text, he's going to be really screwed when he starts Dead Money and finds out that people who don't pay attention to such things tend to die messily in that area, no?

Most likely yes.
The Elijah introduction dialogue is after all kinda long, some people might just want to "start it already" and try to skim through it barely paying attention. (I wonder how well they'd do in games like Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape and Fallout 1 and 2...)
But then again, it's their own fault for doing so.
Fallout is after all an RPG first and FPS second. (Well, with FO3 it's sorta 50/50 if not 60/40 with the FPS part.)

I didn't pay attention to Vera's final message and clicked the second one and was like "Okay.. I must have done something wrong or this DLC is pure crap."
Then I reloaded, payed attention to it, didn't click the one meant for Dean and voila, completed it with a smile on my face.
Until I found out I couldn't return.
Then my blood started boiling again.
Then I calmed down.
Then I ate a sandwich.
It was good.
It had cheese, turkey and some pickles on it.
Drank some milk with it as well.
Then I started the DLC again with another character. :)

Aaaanyway... metalthrashhinken, LISTEN to what Elijah says in the introduction dialogue.

This,

the DLC lacks of a good reward, but the story is really interesting, and is worth my time and money

My guess would be poorly. VERY poorly. For a multitude of reasons.
